Booo!

WARNINGS

  • Offside front positioning lamp has less then 50% of the light source illuminating - Think the glass casing could do with a good clean, full of condensation.
  • Nearside additional braking device wiring not secure
  • Nearside and Offside front suspension arm has excessive play in pin and bush
  • Power steering components leaking - Talking to club member for replacement part, fingers crossed that'll fix it and I can collect in time.

ADVISORY

  • Brake pad warning light on - nearside bleed nipple broken, or something like that o_O
  • Exhaust flexi mesh corroded and loose
  • Front bumper insecure - looks and feels fine to me

Hopefully if I give the front lamp casing a good clean, that should do the trick because the bulbs are new.

Price for fixing it all (this coming Tuesday) is about £400 excluding the PS cooling pipe and advisory items.... does that seem fair/rip-off? I have no idea.

if thats includes replacing both wishbones then yes

Well, he told me that they can't get the single part they need, so have to buy the whole thing, he made reference to arms and ball-joint which apparently includes the bushes and pins that need replacing.

Damn, I wish I was a mechanic. It's all Japanese to me.

make sure they replace the bolts as well that hold the wishbone on,would set you back near enough £300 just for the wishbones(bottom arms) and the bolts if you were doing it yourself

That is a good price if they are doing the wishbones as well. I would pay up front if I was you, because when they find out how much they are to buy + bolts they will change the price for sure. They might be thinking they are the same price as the Mondeo ones ( about £40 each side max ).
Snap there hand off mate and good luck with it.

to be honest, sounds like they are just quoting for one wishbone, by the time labour gets factored in, and replacement bolts, can be a longish job on the cougar, i would ask beforehand, if one wishbone is to be changed i would insist on both, as the car would feel awful if it was stiff into lh turns for example and ran very wide on rh turns, just my opinion.

Last time I spoke to them on Thursday he said £400 + a few pennies all in to fix all the warnings that failed it, bar the PAS pipe.
I'm dropping it off Tuesday morning, so I'll double check again and if it's still £400, I'll pay it all there and then and get a receipt for work to be done.

Fingers crossed! :)

get it writing then there screwed lol,but been honest iam sure there not that stupid and know the price of the parts etc

yes, but they may just change one wishbone, could make it feel a bit weird afterwards, one of them things that has to be done both sides at same time,

iam guessing its the same garage that done the mot?if so then they will have to have quoted for both sides if they have failed it on both

Make them do a written inventory of repair that says £400, pay it and make sure you get a copy. Make sure you stipulate you want to see the old parts to see the wear damage for yourself. If possible ask to see the work done to make sure you can see shiny parts.

It might not be unusual for them to just replace the wishbone ball joint at £12.50 per side and claim to have done the whole thing....

Got a green light on the MOT and all work done and dusted for another year :) Runs better than ever.

Big thanks to Si for letting me collect a part on such short notice.
