Hi,

I own a T Reg 2.0 Zetec cougar which is in impeccable condition but the fuel pump has just failed on me. I can find a replacement fuel pump online but my mechaninc has said if he drops the tank to replace the pump, he would also need to replace a tank strap and the filler neck.

Does anybody know where I can get these from??

If you own a cougar in good condition then you know how hard it is to make the decision to scrap and if I can get hold of these parts then I will keep this one on the road (y)

Any help very much appreciated.
 
You do not need to drop the fuel tank. Unfortunatly there is a fully how too but it is in the subscribers section.
 
New SS tanks straps can be found in the classifieds here iirc. Not sure about the filler neck, might be worth a look around Ebay for scrapped Cougars...

It really is worth subscribing. These cars develop niggly faults all the time and if the answer isn't in here, there isn't an answer...
 
Highly recommend if you have a cougar your planning on keeping that you get the stainless tank straps off cougarbob, I have had 3 sets from him for the 3 cougars I maintain, as Mark sais above there is an inspection panel under the lower part of the back seat but this will need to be widened to actually swap the pump, also there are 2 types of pump the difference is in the connectors on the pump so have a look before ordering a new pump (y)
 
If you do decide to go the route of dropping tank,whilst down then's the time to replace the brake pipes, as if they need doing in near future you have to drop tank to get to them, don't cost much to do if the tank is out anyway
 
Thanks for the info guys. Have done what you suggested and cut back the inspection hole but when removing the fuel lines the plastic push connectors have broken due to them being brittle from age :sleep:.
Does anybody know where i could get some fuel lines from?

Got my fuel filler pipe off Ebay,

Came with plastic tank end locking ring, picked up gasket seal from Ebay US to, stainless steel tank straps i got from here and are both cheaper than Ford ones and better made, got brake pipes done while the tank was out the way, did think about changing the pump but at least if you do the other bits its not such a job changing it if it does pack up.
