I picked up a leaflet while I was in ASDA and for £70 a year for full uk cover inc.roadside assist, recovery ,homecall/recovery and alternative arrangement ie ,if they can't fix it they would get you a hire car or pay towards accomadation ,anyway I thought that wasn't to bad till I read it, the car can't be more than 10 yrs old at start of policy !!! so what cover have any of you got ? BTW the recovery is covered by Britannia rescue .

Pointless exercise then mate if you have a Cougar, I get full breakdown service via my car insurance provider and its less than that if I recall. Not heard of britainia rescue either but then again I was in the AA for years so only knew them and RAC and green flag

I'm covered by Aviva, two cars on policy, my sons and daughter, home, roadside, recovery etc and myself and wife as named drivers for any car same cover for £90. In the few times we have needed them they sub contract out and the RAC have attended.

i have aa cover, was originally 10 per month, now pay £15.77 per month, a lot i know, but they now cover all parts and labour for mechanical failures such as head gasket, starter motors, pretty much everything except wearing items such as brakes, tyres and clutch plates.you can claim up to 5 times a year, up to £500 and it has an excess of 35, then all the usual recovery and relay of vehicle to destination.

I was with the AA but my renewal came upas £110 or something like that for homestart/recall etc. I got Adrian Flux to add their Flux-Rescue cover (which on paper looks exactly the same as what the AA are offering me) for half the price near enough (£55 -£60)

I've got the AA just with me and the missus covered for any car we're in. Why cover a single car when you can cover yourself was my logi as nobody else drives my cars.

My current account is with LloydsTSB, and it provides full AA cover as well as travel insurance, free overdraft, discounts on household white goods, Sentinel card protection for all the household cars etc etc.

It costs us £25/month for a joint account so 2x everything about too. Quite expensive if it was just for AA cover, but as an overall package of "useful things" it's fine for us.

I had breakdown assist attached to my policy for a few extra quids a month, which I used when Coog had his overheating incident but when I called them to instigate it I was told they ony tow you 10 miles, then it's between £1.20 and £2 per mile after that - each way! If I had been towed the 20 miles to home instead it could have ended up costing me £60
Served me ok as I was only being towed a mile or so to my works carpark, but after I found that out I removed it fro. My policy and went with the AA instead.
So a word of advice to anyone relying on their insurance policy breakdown cover - read the small print if it only costs a couple of quid a month (y)

my self and the wife both coverd by rac in any car we are in and covers home start £12 a month
im looking to renew this though as it took the 4 hours to get my vitara to a garage only 2miles away and they never even gave me a run home. They sent a van out who discoverd he could not tow my vitara as it was a 4by4 and then i had to wait on a flat bed to lift the car to the garage

I was with the RAC when I had my van ,and they would always send a van out knowing full well they couldn't fix or recover it ! they would only do it so they can meet the promised time to attend, then as you said they'll go off and you'll have to wait another 2 hours for the proper vehicle to come and rescue you .

I've had that when the X-Type developed an electrical fault. It was obvious to me that it wouldn't be a roadside fix, and as it's AWD I knew they'd need a flatbed to get it home so I could work out what was wrong with it.

I'd left it in work's carpark the night before when it died, and thought I could save myself some pointless waiting around by phoning the AA before I left home the next morning, telling them it was goosed and AWD and they needed to send a flatbed. Then they sent a van. I was still out for 5 hours between phoning them initially, heading in to work, and eventually getting the car home. A bit annoying but at least it was fully covered.

I did fall foul of Wogans Wig's little gotcha back with the first Cougar on one of the occassions it broke down. Cost me £50 I really didn't have to get it home. I had to drive around with a mains charger for another 3 weeks and remove the battery at work in the morning then at home in the evening to charge up indoors until I had enough money for a new alternator. Good times. Not.

Me & my mrs have individual subscriptions with Britannia Rescue, they are pretty good in the few times Iv had them out. They use local garages who come out pretty quick. Head office is in Huddersfield. Its about £90 & they come out to any car you happen to be driving. Also ther is no limit to the age of the car on my subscription, that must be an asda thing.

We have a joint AA policy for any car either of us are in (whether driving or as a passenger) with Roadside Assistance, Relay and Home-Start for £12.83 a month.
