C2 Cougars (as with all Cougs) are getting rare (as you already know), I reckon there is probably less than 200 left in UK now.
What gets me is how many are being scrapped that could easily be saved, I have seen four recently that have been sent to the scrapyard that could be saved,so then they cannot sell the whole car, and so will be broken.
I've bought the parts from two, but if anyone knows of any out there that can be saved let me know.

I think its not only the cougars going to the breakers that could be put back on the road but all those cougars being scraped that would provide lots of parts to keep our cars on the road, if i had the room i would buy them one at a time and strip them to keep as parts for club members to buy then put any profit back into buying more.

There's one on auto trader not far from me been on a while no mot price keeps going up and down was £699 last week now £799 think it started around a grand has ABS fault tempted myself but can't justify 3 cars. Can't put link on via my phone sorry.

???????????

My C2 has been amazing today, a proper workhorse, about 200 miles to Oxford and back in torrential rain at some points, full seating capacity and boot, sat happily at, ahem 90+ a lot of the way, behaved impeccably and had passengers asleep in minutes they said it was so comfortable, for the money there was absolutely no better car to have made today's journey in I'm quite sure of that

Back around 1984 i had a Sunbeam Rapier fast back, it was a 72 model white, 1725cc overdrive etc, now at that time there was the odd one or two in yards around me which i got quite a few parts from, i think they made 47000 of them all told, now back then i struggled to get bits new for it, yes it had a lot in common with the Hilman Hunter, floor pan, engine etc but a lot of body, trim, interior was not, my point is this, there were far more walk in and remove yourself scrap yards then that did not turn stock over very quick and rot prone bits for that model like sills, inner arch, outer arch, valance etc was avalable, with the cougar we have at the moment a glut of cheap cars going to the breakers at a rate of knots and being turned into bean cans even quicker and the totel surply of scrap cars is going to take a big drop in the next 3 to 5 years, so anyone that has the space to buy, break and store parts will be the saviour of our beloved cougar.

Good point Colin, ah yes those were the days, wandering around Scrapyards!
You can still in some, but as you say not many....

I will try continue to try and save as many Cougars (and parts) as I can!

If it's any consolation, here's my take on it...

The price of raw steel has been high up until a few years ago, (mainly because of Chinese and Indian production demand) meaning that just squishing a car and sticking the cube into a container was cost-effective.

But the Chinese have suffered the same economic downturn that we have. Not just domestically, but also in what they can sell us. Price of raw materials goes down because the demand has.

My perception (and recent experience) is that scrappers won't give good dollar for a shell anymore. They want intact cars because they've become dismantlers who will pull an intact car apart and eBay the bits. That's kind of good news for us if you think about it.

By no means a permanent supply, but at least C2 lights aren't just getting smashed in a hydraulic press anymore...

And to think that you were worried about what we would think about you doing that. To me, you're a hero to this club. :)
