Market Rasen, Lincs
Mk3 Mondy Calipers and Mintex pads,
ST170 Mintex 300mm disks,
8 thick washers
Wheel off, Crack the brake pipe union, undo the caliper bolts. Clamp the flexi, Spin off the caliper. Undo the pad holder. Beat the living daylights out of the old disk.(The longest bit of the job)
Spin the new caliper on. Reassemble with new bits. Mitivac vacuum bleeder and non return pipe to bleed. Job done, two hours.

I really Like how snug to the wheel the caliper is. Just enough space. Although I do wonder if I should have painted them yellow ;)

It could do with lowering at the front. Doesn't look like an 18" wheel in there.

Still bedding them in at the mo so I can't say with any genuine honesty that they feel any more powerful. It does seem a bit smoother and quicker to stop, but not more powerful if that makes sense.
The wheel shake has gone and I needed new disks and pads anyway so it seemed rude not to :)

Nice Al, give us an update when you have thoroughly tested them as to whether we should raid ebay en mass

Yes you should I really don't know how many times to say it!!!, with poo pads and discs they work great with good discs and pads they can lock all four wheels comfortably at any speed and put you through the window (bear in mind I also have 250+ kg in the rear half)

First proper impressions are...they work. Always a bonus :)
My wheel shake has gone. Braking is smooth and progressive with enough to lock the wheels/kick in the abs on the lovely warm sunny day we had today without to much effort.
They are significantly more powerful then original. But my originals were proper mullered so standards might have felt similar.
The only thing I'm missing is a decent initial bite. But thats more likely pads than the overall setup.

Has anyone done big brake caliper upgrade with known brands such as Wilwood or Ksport? I need suggestions on what is available, please.

One car belonging to a scouser has cossie brakes on it and there are a couple with the BAER big brake kit on but reports on the latter suggest that they aren't worth the cost as they don't significantly improve braking. Another member from long ago had Hi Spec brakes but other than that, I cannot help.

Wilwood doesn't have a specific brake kit for a 2001 Cougar but if someone could tell me what axle flanges and what axle flange offset Cougar has perhaps I could find some Wilwood brakes that would fit. Any help would be much appreciated.

A guy on here had Willwood brake calipers (may have been 6-pots) fitted to his C1 (the car used to be the club's founder's but he had sold it, was the first 3.0L cat) so there must be a kit available....am I guessing lads that mondeo Mk2 kit would fit the Cougar if that helps with the search...but expect them to be expensive.
If like John's car the brakes are cosworth ones (as we know that is possible) the cosworth 2wd willwood brake kits are £1225.00 thats a billet 6pot caliper and a bell mounted disc.
I have a pic on my pc of said car...you need minimum 17inch wheels too

Ginja, are you able to find out more about the brake and caliper setup used in your photo?

Does that car have Wilwood calipers at the rear, too?
