Got all the old mots and loads of main dealer bills, even got the original brochures! two owners from new im well chuffed! cant see any mention of a cam belt change so was wondering when its due? thanks.

Hi Archi and welcome to the home of the Cougar (y)

If I remember correctly, Ford's service schedule for the timing belt is 100k miles or 10 years - if you cannot verify whether or not it's been changed then it's well worth doing as it is 2 years over the advised replacement. Check for stickers on the side of the cambelt cover as sometimes they are placed there with a date if it has been done (y)

Welcome Archi

Ford's service schedule for the timing belt is 100k miles
Many have snapped or started cracking at much lower mileages (60k ish) so Ford's schedule is not a good one.
I think 10 years is a bit generous too.

60k or 5 years is a safer routine to follow so get yours booked now.
Make sure the idler pulley is replaced too as a ceased one of these has destroyed a few belts.
Not all belt kits come with the idler pulley.

60k definately the limit imo. As above, if there is no sign/evidence of it being done, then get it changed asap, complete with a new set of pulleys, not just the idler as they are all of the same composition and it only takes one bearing to seize and melt and your belt is shot in no time at all, causing massive engine damage. Look HERE for cambelt/pulley differences.
