Caught a Cougar bug

So I've been into the Ford dealer a couple times in the past week - my partner has had enough of our Mk5 Fiesta and just ordered a 2012 Ka Titanium.

Well since he's ordered a new one I felt a little left out and got a quote on a new Fiesta Zetec-S in red - with every gadget. The sales chap asked me to bring the Cougar in for valuation - not that I was considering offering it in part-exchange!

Anyway long story short I couldn't bring myself to order a shiny new car. I work from home so the Cougar is a bit of a toy for me, it sits in the garage most days of the week and the moments she does come out they can be special.

To make matters worse when I finished the sales talk I found 3 Ford mechanics noseying the car on the forecourt (it's a small family-run dealer) stating the usual stuff about how rare these are getting.

These cats are hard to part with aren't they? :)

Yes Adam This is the same response that i got from a Bosch and ford garage this year. Found another Cougar addict at Perrys ford, who owns a frosty V6 and dose not want to part with it due to the car becoming more of a rarity, which is more of a reason why you should not part with it :devilish:

Don't do it  you'll regret it. I know I sometimes long for another car, but as yet I couldn't afford one or bare to part with the Cougar, its just so much better than everything else in its class

Nah not to worry ginja I'm not parting with her. You're absolutely right - on the drive home I realised how much I like driving big-engined coupes and there aren't many cars in similar class until you get to £35K+ money (new) in my opinion.

So to say sorry to her I bought some new Bosch wiper blades and some rear mud flaps - cheaper than a new car lol!

To be honest I'd prefer a cougar to a fiesta, but I know where the temptation comes from for a new car.

I'm guessing you'd been down to see Reg Aldridge at Endon Services? Bit of a character but nice enough bloke.

funny you all say that as i got told by a colleague about a year ago to hold onto it as it would turn into a classic and value rocket up in a few years.
Not sure if it will but in general Ford classics now are more expensive than their VW equivelants. Which they never were before.

I think to hold on to a car because "it might become a classic" is a mistake. Just enjoy the ride for now, if it does eventuallybecome a rare classic then brilliant, but classic or not it won't change my view of this car

Went through the same emotions myself, even got as far as putting it on fleabay but couldn`t part with her. Spent a few quid on her instead. She now lives a quiet life in the garage to be used on sunny days.

That's the best way Rik, mine only really goes out on sunny/dry days...only I don't have a garage to keep her in...although I am going to buy an expensive car cover for her next month.

It`s the future Tim, do have to check her every night to make sure all is well, these cars should be cherished

And having a 240hp Vovo for the mundane duties helps !

before I bought the Cougar.

To go from a Cougar to a Fiesta would be a mistake imo. Cougar has some about it the Fiesta doesn't. Much more fun to drive par the Fiesta handling better due to it being smaller.

Well, I'm considering selling up in September. I'm thinking of starting a business but my car isn't exactly the best looker with several body marks and scratches etc. Plus I want a black one.

I'm thinking once I have my business up and running (probably using a Mk3 Mondeo) then once in a good financial position I might buy another cougar.

Yea I had a Mk6 Fiesta ST before my Cougar. The ST was quicker but I still think the Cougar is more fun plus the sound doesn't compare! On reflection I decided the Mk7 Fiesta is just too common on the road and the 1.6 Zetec-S would be a bit of a letdown .
