Hej!

I was wondering... since the Jaguar X-type stands on a CDW27 platform...

Wikipedia said:
The Ford CDW27 platform was Ford's midsize car automobile platform from 1993 to 2006, and was designed to be used as its 'World Car' platform.[SUP][1][/SUP] The platform was developed over six years and at a huge expense totalling $6 billion,[SUP][2][/SUP] but was expected to save 25% compared to developing separate models for Europe and North America.[SUP][3][/SUP]
The CDW27 platform was used in the 1993 Ford Mondeo,[SUP][4][/SUP] Ford Contour, Mercury Mystique, and Mercury Cougar.
Descendants of this platform were used in the second generation European Mondeo CD162, the third generation European Mondeo CD132 and Jaguar X-Type. The successors to many of these cars use the new Ford CD3 platform.

Should it enable me to build in a 2.5/3L engine with 4WD in a cougar?

The Jaguar X-type and MK3 Mondeo share similar chassis components, however the Cougar shares its with the Mondeo MK2 a different chassis altogether mate.
People who want 4x4 Cougars use the old Mondeo Mk2 2.0L 4x4 transmission.

There has been success transplanting the 3.0L engine from the ST220 into the Cougar and this is a slightly similar design to the JAG engine but also slightly different.

hmm going from whats been told on wiki i thought there were slight differences... maybe another K-frame... specially with the jag x market laying on his ass... i thought i saw a gap :)

no one knows the exact differences? ive had vauxhall vectra's and honda del sols modified to fit 5holes suspensions and engine mods... the knowledges is there... the workspace and gear aswell... but if it differs that much... guess ill have to look for a mk2 4x4 tranna then :
any "huge" mods?

I've heard of a Mk3 Mondeo that was converted to 4x4 using Jag X-Type running gear - but the Mk3 uses roughly speaking the same floorpan as the X-Type. The current Cougar 4x4 conversions were all done using Mk1 Mondeo 4x4 running gear (as the Mk1/Mk2 Mondeo and Cougar again share the same floorpan). With enough ingenuity and deep pockets, everything is possible but it would be a huge amount of work to use Jag running gear on a Cougar along with some compromises (the height of the X-Type engine being just one - unlikely to fit under the bonnet).

Stick with Mk1 Mondeo gear for the conversion if that is the route you want to take (y)

thanks guys :) sounds clear to my... still a shame though... my girlfriends uncle had a aupercharger for jag xtype i figured out today..! tike to start searching for a mk1 mondeo then :D

Oh one more thing, if I remember correctly it needs to be the Estate version (y)

You will have to lower the compression on a supercharge engine

finally found the running gears on the internet and a great company to do a revision on the old engine... so they'll be getting in relatively "soon"... first got to finish the honda del sol streetracer project for a client... then out with old betsy's 291.xxx miles engine... :rolleye: still defeats VAG's V5 DSG powered golf though :cautious: strange strong engine!

i wonder... maybe i got a spot next month to do so
