On the cover this week - Puma: The nineties Capri and still yours for a song.

Not read the article yet so maybe the Probe and the Cougar might get a mention but I thought this was just typical.

Mind you they do rust as fast as a capri

i dont know, why is it why?????? when im out in this car THIS CAR! i will get people coming up and asking questions in general what is it where can i get one? oh its not made anymore? bla bla.. so if it was that crap as the media or whatever..keep saying...im confused.

Don't worry about it. It's their loss, just enjoy driving the cougar and relish the admiring looks and bemused questions from the confused but adoring public who don't know any better .
At least we can say this is a genuine FORD albeit a Mercury division product, not a dressed up Mazda with a Ford badge stuck on it. :)

Why would the Cougar get a mention in an article about the Puma?

They're not really similar beyond the badge on the front? Without sounding too much of a knob, the Probe has now't in common with the Puma at all.

I just think of both the Probe and the Cougar being more of a successor to the Capri than the Puma which is a smaller car based on a fiesta.

Ford would have been lost without Mazda - most of the duratec era engines are based on jap technology - Mazda's L series. Ford was only capable of turning out cvh wheezers in the late 80s/early 90s.

The motoring press are a bit blinkered - give them a couple of years!

Besides they will be busy writing their third article this year on either an MGB, MX-5, Tr6 *delete as applicable.

Change is a scary thing for motoring journo's nobody wants to jump first in case they get shot down or don't sell as many issues of a magazine.

I had a Mazda Tribute (mk 3 Maverick / Ranger) and that was great. Slow as a mountain, but so practical and spacious and comfy as hell. Shared the Blacktop Zetec, even marked as a Ford, but Mazda 'tweaked' the suspension setup. Only problem was the tin worm, clearly Ford input when you look at Pumas and how they rot. Interior was Ford influence too.

Still going strong the Tribute, gave it my brother when buying a RAV4 as the trade in was so poor.

Yup, the RX has common rust problems. There's a lot of aluminium parts that are ok (bonnet, doors etc) but the steel parts are just as prone to rust as any other car. I've got some around my third brake light - which is really common - that needs sorting.
