Don't see many Melina Cougars around/for sale,
I've got a 1999 one, did Ford only import relatively few to UK?........
I know, another one of my unusual posts! But I'm just interested in the history of Cougars.....
Also still want a red one!
They set up for UK spec in three colours silver frost, Ebony and Melina blue then in 2000 they launched the tourmaline green. cougar2 where silver frost , ebony and amazon green. But 3 or 4 where built in uk spec red and there was an alternative blue it was seen a couple of times down in the Torbay area.
Having owned a Silver Frost and an Ebony at the same time, I have to confess that:
1) Ebony is generally prettier. Black suits a low, curvy car better, especially with tints (windows or lights).
2) But Ebony shows up every single imperfection. I have no idea what Ford were thinking using that colour on a car that has no bump strips on the doors or bumpers. It's insane to look after. They should've used Panther Black in my opinion because the metallic would've been more forgiving.
3) Silver Frost is far more tolerant of "I don't have time to clean it today"; it just sort of darkens all over. But when you do clean it, it absolutely glows. It's like looking at a full moon through a telescope. Absolutely blinding, with a depth that I didn't think a silver paint could have.
4) Silver Frost shows off the rump of the car better. The lines and creases stand out more and really show her character.
I bought Tiger because I wanted a V6 and also wanted something properly moody-looking. If Mako had been Ebony, (or a V6) I probably wouldn't have bothered and you'd be drinking your beer out of Tiger's carcass by now.
