Connector Query

I was under the bonnet of the car at the weekend changing the pollen filter and noticed a plug disconnected next to the distributor cap that I hadn't noticed before.

I've reconnected with no adverse effects, but help in identifying what this is for would be appreciated:-

Probably wrong but I think it's some kind of surpressor to prevent interference from the coil pack/ignition system causing things like noise on the audio system and blinky lights

both my old one and my replacement engine had it mounted on the otherside of the coil pack and actually bolted onto the coilpack

Kinluney has a C2 so different coilpack.
