hi to all, i have just bought my first cougar and hope the guys/girls here may be able to help trying to open bonnet for first time the cable has come off the release mech under the bonnet.could some one please tell me how to open the bonnet apparently the previous owner had just had a new one fitted and i have the reciept for this but i am unsure how to proceed. it is a 98 2ltr in frost silver. any help would be very welcome. many thanks steve

Wow - an awful lot of new members at the moment. Is it Cougar-buying season or something?

Paul, it looks like he's definitely talking about the catch end; "has come off the release mech under the bonnet" so what you've described is what he's going to have to do. I assume you meant one of the lower grilles, right? I can't see how you could remove the upper one without scragging it.

Main grille, plenty of people here will be able to supply a replacement for not much more than buttons, I think Alan has about five in the cave

good excuse to upgrade to a Yank one ;)

Hi mate and a warm welcome to Cougar ownership. A bad start to your ownership, but, these things are sent to try us. As Paul says just cause the minimal damage and you should be OK.

Hi and welcome to ukcougar.org, your in the right place for all things cougar related, as well as some crazy banter. You will also be able to find all the fixes you need in our subscriber sections. Have a browse around the open forums and get a feel for the place. Remember! ukcougar.org is the only workshop manual for the big cat.

nope I mean the upper one :-( and there is no way to remove it with the bonnet down without breaking it but atleast its better than replacing a bonet that you had to cut open (y)

hi to all many thanks for all the advice and warm welcome, i spent an hour with two screw drivers and managed to open the bonnet without destroying anything the cable had popped out of the holder so popped it back in now works fine, again thanks for all the advice. could anyone please tell me where i can get a dash board centre panel the one that has the radio rear demist and heater controls in. the previous owner had his stereo stolen and had to glue this panel back together which isnt great as the stereo i put in falls backwards and the rear demist button keeps falling inside the panel any help would be greatfully appreciated.kind regards steve

Hello and welcome aboard Steve. Where in Exeter are you? I'm down in Ivybridge near Plymouth but work at the Met Office in Exeter. Will have to arrange a meet. Cheers, Tim

akind thank you to all for the warm welcome to the forum, could anybody please tell me where to find a repair manual for the cougar as i have heard that they are as rare as fairy dust or if some one has one could they tell me how to adjust the head light aim as for some reason mine point up and to the left almost into peoples bedrooms and would it be fine to fit xenon bulbs in the lights as they are plastic? again many thanks steve.

thank you wildv6, im in wonford exeter and i work in smyths in plymouth so meeting up could work either way. and thank you for the warm welcome. looking forward to hearing from you regards steve
