cougar v6 starter motor removal,V reg

Hi everyone,
Question for you,looking at my TIS manual for this car and am looking to remove starter motor for a good clean as on start up its pretty noisey and the manual tells me i need special tools to disconnect the fuel lines and special tools to de-presurize the system before even getting to the starter motor,can someone tell me this is not so, can i remove the starter motor with out all that rigmarole,those type of tools must cost a fortune,,,,,,,any help on this query would be great,,thanks

No need to remove fuel lines, just disconnect the battery. It is a bit fiddly to pull the starter out but not impossible

i would agree just disconnect battery and remove starter, take your time as it is fiddly

You'd do well to have some zip ties or string handy to ties pipes/looms etc back enough to get access and also have a magnetic pick up tool handy
