In a dream world
I found an old copy of Auto Express in the doctors waiting room yesterday from 2002 so out of interest I had a look at what the Cougar was worth in 2002...

£4940 for a 2.0 and a little more for the V6, crikey !!!

Now some 10 years later its worth £450 according to the Cap valuation ... oh dear

This is a factor for most cars TBH. After say 10 years on, most mainstream cars will be worth around the £1000-£2000 if you are lucky. You never gain money on a car unless you want a classic car and are willing to put time and money into it.

How old were thry talking about? I mean, I'm fairly sure you could still buy a brand spankers one in '02, certainly '01.

ehh ?? really, another.. ..

Depending on my next posting, I may end up with a 40 mile each way commute. I love my Cougar dearly, but there's no way a 2.5 litre petrol V6 is a financially viable proposition for that. :(

Anyway, thread hijack over, I'll cross that particular bridge if and when I come to it.

I've probably spent 4/5 times the cars value on repairs just in the last 12 months! I'm beyond caring now though, I do it for the love of the vehicle and what it's worth to me as such.

At the end of the day, it still puts a smile on my face every time I hear that V6 burble :D and you can't put a price on that!

Also, as Mako quite rightly says, the only way is up.

In January 2004 I paid £10k for my 2001 Y reg, which was the going rate for its age, I have always been of the opinion that the car isn't worth anything, I took out the loan and if I were to get anything back on the resale, it's a bonus. As mentioned in another thread I have just spent over a thousand quid on mine, quite scary really but how many mass production cars still demand the attention that ours do? I had to smile when I was told that at the ASDA fun day last year that the police car that drove past slowed down to a crawl to take a look at the car, then again, maybe he thought it was a drug dealer!! lol

When people start putting a cash value on these cars, they are scrap! Like a lot here, i've spent far more than my car was or will ever be worth in hard cash. I bought it simply because i liked it, still do and don't ever see a time when i won't like it, to the point where i already have "COUGAR" stickers designed for my mobility scooter . The car is to be admired and driven, so let's appreciate that. (y). Mentioned in another thread i think: Like Rich, although not to the cash amount, i am giving my cat a fairly major overhaul this year, a lot of cougars are now in car heaven for far less than our cars have undergone/are undergoing.
Cougar prices atm seem to be a bit wild depending on weather it's a private sale/ebay ad or classified. Some bargains still to be had.
