Hi all, I just bought a 2001 V6 Cougar and was just wondering what the differences are between the C1 and C2? I know the C2 has a different front splitter and so on but I have noticed 2 different engine sizes with the V6, a 2544cc and a 2495cc. I have one with the 2495cc engine and was wondering, if I am ordering spares for the engine, do I check for C1 or C2 parts?

Thanks in advance

Late build C1's also got the 2495cc engine. All depends on the car's build date - don't go by the reg date as many sat unsold for months or even more than a year.

Most normal service items are the same for both sizes. Main differences are the alternator, aux belt, coil pack, HT leads, no EGR, oil filler cap and reverse switch (on gearbox).

Thanks for all the help and the link too guys. My main reason for asking was that I think mine has the issue with the alternator that causes my lights to dim and brighten up and just wondered which alternator mine might have as I heard the early ones were a dog to work on but the newer ones could be a 15 minute job

Have a look at the aux belt and look for the tensioner pulley. If the tensioner is mounted near the rear bank its a 2544cc. If it's mounted near the front bank it's a 2495cc and therefore has the easier to change alternator.

Anyway if you have dimming lights it's not usually the alternator that's at fault but the wiring.

does the steering wheel have four spokes ?
Both the C1 and C2 have 4 spoke wheels but different designs so not sure what Rik was getting at here????
