as the title says don't! i went out to my mongy yesterday and started it up to defrost it.i decided to clear the snow of the body and when i had finished i tried to open the door, but the central locking decided to close it for me locking me out and my keys and phone inside.to make matters worse i was at my girlfriends so my spare keys were a distance away.anyway quick call to my mate to ask if he was still in the AA,he kindly informed me it had done the same thing to him once.he kindly informed of how to gain entry into the mongy i went ahead and tried and managed with little effort.rest assured i wont be doing that again unless i leave the window down enough and no i wont be publishing a 'how to' on this one lol:giggle:

My Kitty done this to me the second day I owned it. I had the keys in the ignition with the new stereo I'd just installed blasting out some music with the doors closed to see how loud it was outside the car. Needless to say the doors locked themselves. Lucky I had the windows down so it was a warning not to do it again. I didn't have a spare key yet (dealer had only suppied one), got one cut now though.

Mates range rover did this a few weeks ago after leaving the lights on, he had put the keys in the ignition and closed the door while we were sorting the dead battery, needless to say it deadlocked on reconnection, these also have a security code to regain the immobiliser, to say it was entertaining lol and still is hahaha is an understatement ;-D

Range Rovers are a git for it, as they 'superlock' so that you can't open with keys etc, you have to put the code in through the door lock (which is normally worn). Every manual, or how-to guide always starts with make sure you leave the door open, I think even the tailgate left open stops it locking - but what a stupid design!

one thing i never do is leave the keys is when reconnecting a battery, just took my suprise typical mongy lol

LOL!!! I leave my keys in the ignition on both the Coug and Mondy when washing then etc. I have also left them in while the engine is running whilst scraping ice/snow from the car. Luckily this has never happened to me....although I heed the warning and won't do in future, although when at home it isn't a problem as I have spares which are easily accessible.

I've been caught out by this before - luckily has the spare keys close to hand. I always leave the drivers door closed over but open now when deicing the car

Coog always did it in the cold weather, though luckily I first experienced it when I was in the car. Upshot is that whether I'm closing the garage door or scraping the windscreen I always leave the window open when the keys are in.

On frosty mornings, I go down to the cars, start them up, put the heaters and heated screens on then lock them with the spare keys, before going back upstairs for a brew and watching the ice melt.

I had the anti hijack alarm fitted to my Sierra years ago, after turning the key to the III bit, the car the doors locked, same thing happened with that, I ended up pulling the bonnet cable manually, once released I jumped a wire across two terminals on the boot relay, then I was in, trouble was that once I opened the bonnet the alarm was in full voice!

I'm trapped out of car and house!

Hey pauldf1971

I'm moving house and I've cleverly locked my keys in the car outside the old house - the one I'm moving out of. Weirdly enough I thought I had the correct keys in my hand when I locked the door of the cougar but it actually locked fine with a Mondeo key, but it won't unlock.

Can you let me in on how I can regain entry to the car?

You can lock any Ford with any Ford key (providing the key/barrel type are same, hex, blade etc)

Obviously easiest way is to use your spare keys or if you have breakdown cover, get them to come let you in.
