Well what a weekend.

Some facebookers will have seen the plethora of iphone pics I have posted up over the weekend, but thought I would share more on here.

This was my son and I's Christmas presents and it was so worth the wait. Jake, my son, is the biggest F1 fan in the world and he was almost in tears of happiness all weekend.

"This is the best thing ever in my life," - that made it if for me :)

F1 has some great detractors these days, and I understand why. But what a show is put on.

We stopped all weekend (well from Thursday) and camped at Woodlands. Everything was great apart from it taking 4 hours to get out to come home.

For the first time Silverstone allowed three day pass holders to have a pit walk on the Thursday and that was just brilliant....just brilliant.

The whole set up around the circuit was magnificent, but I was glad to have taken my own food - when its £8 for bloody burger!!!

The support for the British drivers was phenominal - particularly for Jenson Button and his #pinkforpappa campaign. It was emotional listening to him, and you couldn't help but get drawn in.

We had reserved seating on the national pit straight for the race, and those seats were amazing but for practices, qualifying and some of the support races we had the best seats in the house on the main straight.

Clearly Lewis is incredibly popular, and the roar when Rosberg broke down was brilliant, although Hamilton would have had him regardless.

We got on the track at the end and when Hamilton climbed the pit wall to celebrate we were two feet away - but my phone was out of frigging battery - god damn it!! Hey ho.

It was a shame Button didn't get on the podium, but fourth wasn't bad.

The atmosphere was electric in the stands...and i had to laugh when they played an interview on the screens with Vettel when he said "the British fans are very fair," and the bloke next to me shouted "no we bloody aren't."

Aside from the British drivers, Williams are extremely popular - and what a drive from Bottas.

Check out the pic with his interview in the programme - and his first car :)

Brilliant from the Marussia's in qualifying and Chilton lapped it up with the fans...shame he got a penalty.

I could ramble on....and on, and maybe will later but here are a few (a lot of pictures) from our weekend.

I won :)

On the track post race

It's no secret that after being a massive F1 fan for the best part of twenty years I have completely fallen out of love with the sport..
that said - looks like you both had a great weekend and Silverstone is always a special place to visit :)

This pic is great...

Looks like a fantastic weekend mate great pics really capture the atnosphere.
I can't believe its nearly 20 years since my last British GP.

Thats great news about Bottas - he is a great racer. Maybe we should ask him to be an honorary member :)

I've always said that F1 in reality is a different prospect altogether to that on TV. It's always a big show at Silverstone - loved every time I've been (and been lucky to have witnessed both the V10 and V8 days in person) ;)

To be honest, where you watched the race from was probably a better place than the main pit straight as you always get a lot of overtaking out of Woodcote and into Copse (and you see them reaching full tilt into Copse too). Very tempted to do the same and do the 4 day weekend with Kathy next year. So jealous you got a pit walk - never been in the pits when F1 has been there (y)

This was the first year they allowed it John.

You have to have a three day pass, and this year they ran two - 9.15 on the Thursday and 3.15 on the Thursday.

The queues were huge, but once the gates were opened they dwindled quickly.

It was worth every minute.

They have not confirmed it will happen again, but it was a great PR exercise and was one of my favourite parts of the weekend.

If I can get the cash together we are going next year.

What good pics and what a brilliant write up , to me it is clear it was not a father and son weekend but two best mates doing something that they both love together.Lap it up Si because these are the treasured moments that you will remember for the rest of your life (y)(y)(y)

Well put sir.

Its the first time in years we have spent time together - just me and him. It's a passion we share and I will do all i can to embrace it.

My job means I spend not enough time with my kids (and I hate it for that), but this weekend was special, very special.

Good post Mike, very true as i am only too aware.
Great pics Si and you both obviously enjoyed the show. I've only ever attended a couple of practice days when they used to be allowed (pre-budget cuts). I must get to at least one F1 race.

There is testing going on tomorrow and wednesday i think. They are charging (from memory) £20 for entry.

There is also a classic race soon

Nice one Si, I recorded the F1 at Silverstone due to work, but have watched the race - fantastic and was really pleased for Hamilton - great to see a Brit on podium winning the British Grand Prix...doesn't happen very often.

The atmosphere there is brilliant, as I have been there twice before, in the old days when Shumacher was driving for Ferrari.

Pleased you and Jake thoroughly enjoyed it - lovely times for you both to remember and cherish.

Also - Bottas first car - a Cougar!!! Good lad!!! LOL!!!!

I was there fore the three days, on Club corner. Loved it, but looks like I missed out on the pit walk! Was on track after the race though. What a weekend!

What a great set of pictures and memory's you and your boy will hold forever. I am a bit jealous of you but in a respectful way, I would love to do something like this with my twins but I just do not have the kind of money needed to attend this kind of event. I am glad you enjoyed it Si.

We did Peter.

We booked early and camped on site. A great 4 day break which cost £400. Its a lot of money in one lump sum, but worth every penny and more
