After 9 years and relatively trouble free the clutch finally went and i just think that it's uneconomical to repair.

I have a friend that said he would do it for €350 but i would need to get it towed to garage so looking at just under €500.
110K on the clock and engine still running fine. New Goodyear tyres on the back too :(.

Motor tax in Ireland is €710 and MOT €55.

I just don't think it's worth it.
It's sitting in my driveway now staring at me every time i go to work in a feckin Honda H-RV.

Sorry to hear that... unfortunately these are only worth what the owner valued them at...
Mine for example only cost £300 to buy nearly 2 years ago, theres been times when I have thought the same as you, the cost quickly mounts up...
Its ashame your not over here, im sure there would have been a few people offer their services...

All in all, for €500 you could buy another car, who's to say that clutch wont need doing 6months time? Atleast you know yours is done :)

I got the Honda for 1k. 2002 and 68k miles on the clock from my mechanic friend. It was his daughters car and new clutch only put in.
Needed a car urgently for work so had to just go for it.

Thats a shame mate but to be honest that tax price is horrific, I never knew it was that high. Is it on any kind of scale or are all cars the same?

Any car from 2008 is based on emissions . Car's before that are based on engine size.
So you could probably drive around in a new 3 litre BMW but only pay about €200.

You think that's bad, have a look at their insurance.

3 years ago i was paying €450, now i am paying €1200.
Full no claims bonus and no penalty points. They charged me more when i switched my policy to the Honda because they say that Honda's attract a higher premium.

They are all being investigated now but can't see any good coming out of it.

You have my sympathy, Dublin. That's the sort of price that an 18-year-old new driver pays over here for a 1.2 Fiesta. And since you've owned a Cougar for 9 years, you clearly aren't 18...

For what it's worth, I hope that whatever investigation is being undertaken somehow helps you guys out over there.
