Hi, can anyone offer some advice,

My Cougar is having a new clutch fitted next week. I was wondering if it would be any easier to fit the new manifolds and y pipe while they have the car in bits. I have had them sat around for a year now, maybe its a good time to fit them?

thanks

Chris.

Unless you're planning on dropping the whole engine, it probably won't get much more convenient to fit them while a lot of bits are already out and the car is up in the air. Having the gearbox itself off isn't a help in any way, but a lot of labour cost is made up by silly things like setting yourself up to get started, tidying up etc. Not having the subframe in the way will improve visibility and access a good bit though, particularly for the rear bank. :)

i fitted mine on axle stands on the drive way lay on my back, i managed it without removing anything ie. alty etc. it was a pain of a job and visibility was very difficult, as for the rear bank i just had to feel my way round! think i used about 8 extension bars on my ratchet including one of those knuckle joint thingys, so i imagine with the gear box out and it being up on ramps it maybe a tad easier to get your arms into better positions and maybe less cuts on knuckles etc! its one job though im glad i did and i realy dont want to do it again lol so give your mechanic a good pat on the back if he does it!

Thanks for that guys, I think I will just go for it then and get them fitted while the car is off the road.
