I can't afford to replace my 'orrible foam cone air filter at the moment, so can I just take it off and wash it?

No such luck mate - it's more in the 'Chav Up Yer Motor @ Argos' category.
The pipe to the TB/airflow meter thingy is held on with duct tape and zip ties which probably isn't helping either.
Does it need oiling once its dry - although if I'm going to buy oil I might as well wait till I can afford a new induction kit.

I'll give the cleaning a go - I've got the UKC hoodies to pay for in the reasonably near future and still trying to save up for some wheels so if I can patch it up for now that will help.
