OK not been on forums for while due to personal reasons but suffice to say I still have my beloved cougar still , big hello to all forum users and all the best for Christmas and new year .
OK on to my problem , w reg v6 cougar needing, but not desperately of yet, a fuel filler pipe to tank , not listed with ford on their finis so I'm surmising they are no longer produced or stocked , advice for where I can get one or even custom made? Or maybe the same pipe off a different ford??
many thanks cougar clan.
Carl.

Hello Carl, long time no see.
I 'rescued' a brand new filler pipe off Ebay about a year ago but it found a new home in July.
If yours isn't too bad at the moment could you get it cleaned-up, treated with a rust prohibitor and then painted?

I'd like that , but due to being out on a limb ATM and not settled due to a shift in personal life changes I'll have to pass but cheers guys for the feedback I'll try that.
All the best.

Cheers chaps , I've seen a mint one, but off the mercury cougar(v6 same year) and would mean paying for import but it will be same right? Also I've seen a twin exhaust off a auto , now as we know only the v6 offered both auto and manual , will a auto custom made twin system fit on my manual?
Cheers ...
and pid you helped me resize my SIG as it was breaking rules previously! Ha. Many thanks.

On a another note ,I think last time was knocking around forums I was chatting about buying rims , but I went cheap skate root and sprayed my original standards matt black ha ha , made it look much meaner though , two young lads passed my car the other day as I was getting out and doing the double check locking up with remote... Whooaa what ford is that mate? Its well mint... I love my cougar ;p

Not cos little boys like it mind! Ha ha , just cos it gets respect ,and we all been little boys , you know what a good car is when ya young lad and wishful!! ( i always wanted a lambo!)

Don't we all mate , could you answer the above? Are mercury cougar pretty much the same as their UK counter part in regards to parts? And will a auto exhaust essentially be the same as a manual??

Merc and Ford variant are exactly the same car with different badges. You will find that mercury will be LHD as opposed to our RHD and odd things like that ie rear lights are all red on the US mercury cougar but fit exactly the same. Not 100% sure on the exhaust differences with the auto but i'm sure somebody will know who has dealt with both. From the cat back though, they are all the same.

This site is a god send for cougar owners without a doubt. Hope to keep mine for many years to come hence investments into parts , just had mine mot bit of welding in four places sorted and a drop link back drivers side which is weird as I had already had that done at a garage a not so long time before.. Weirder still is the knocking never went when it got done both last time and this! Only a small sound when over small sharp bumps but enough to be pissing me off , amber warning of corrosion were on( bizzarely )the exhaust hangers but not on the actual exhaust...? Along with a amber on fuel filler pipe due to corrosion again and a slight play in front ball joint I'm getting done along with wheel alignment and balancing this week , need to stay in top of my baby! Ha.

The drop links, be they front or rear, should ideally be changed in pairs. Replacing a single worn side will accelerate the demise of the other, the parts are far from expensive so it makes sense to do both whilst you're under there anyway.

Not sure on the knocking, but your advisory on the exhaust hangers could be a clue. Could it possibly be a portion of the exhaust hitting the underside of the car over bumps? Alternatively, one of the heatshields could have worked loose, but this does usually manifest itself as a rattle/vibration, as opposed to a knocking noise.

Many thanks , if I get the twin exhaust I hope to score, I'll post pics on here, I've had the cougar now for a year to appreciate it standard I now want to start modding slightly , first exhaust , than maybe a sports inlet , and then a(removable) rear strut brace from catfabs , cheers ppl.

Advisory to remove battery whilst having exhaust fitted as to reset ECU? And will I expect any if at all performance gain from a mid sport exhaust?? Or just noise gain? Heh heh (Ftw!)

You don't need to remove the battery mate, just disconnect the positive terminal. Alternatively, there's one of the fuses you can pull but I'm afraid I don't know which one off the top of my head.

Don't expect any performance gain from a cone filter, just more noise. It's a bloody lovely noise though, and I love mine. :) Similar for the exhaust, although you will see a small gain from that, but an honest man would need a dyno to discern the difference. As before though, a decent (Mongoose, Blueflame, Powerflow etc) cat-back exhaust on a V6 sounds gorgeous, particularly when the IMRC kicks in.

Actually Rich combined with a good exhaust system you will notice a small gain off the dyno but the cars ecu does need to be setup to recognise the increased airflow (y)

Fair enough Paul, there will be a small performance gain, but nothing you could (honestly) measure from the driving seat. Other than the increased and - in my opinion - improved noise, you wouldn't know anything had been done.
