Hi all,

Not exactly a new owner but new member to this forum. I picked up a 2001 Ford Cougar 2 years ago with 53000kms on the clock. So far I've taken the SVT Contour's UIM, Cams, ECU, TB and injectors. Added MSDS Headers and Trubendz 2.5" dual exhaust with hi-flo cat. Loving the car. I do plan on undertaking the 3L conversion using a 2004 Ford Escape 3L(No 2000+ Taurus in Aus).

I was wondering what Euro cougars do for suspension upgrades such as front strut tower brace and rear sway bar upgrade? The only one I could find was in the US and the company refuses to ship the 21mm BAT bar and OMP front strut tower brace to me.

Hi AD26 and welcome to the home of the Cougar. Sounds like you have upgraded quite a bit already. There is a member here who produces front and rear Strut Braces at very reasonable prices, but, as for the 21mm rear sway bar, they are like rocking horse poo.
 
Hi buddy, as Dick says we have a member here who makes them but shipping them to you would probably be very prohibitive!

A rear strut brace is one of the best mods you can do, I wonder if you could get somebody local to fabricate one they're a pretty simple design.
 
Thank you all for the welcome :) and thank you for the advice. I've had a look at the rear strut tower brace install, looks good but also looks like I'd have to relocate my sub box and amps. I've heard there's a euro mondeo with a 19mm sway bar that fits but I have no idea which year model or anything as it's possible they're Australian delivered too.
 
Hi again

19mm is the standard size so you won't gain anything there, I think only the Roush and BAT bars are 21mm, and as rare as a golden unicorn!

Thats standard on European Cougars, US models came with a 16mm rear ARB iirc...dunno if Aussie ones are the same.

@AD26 - is yours just 16mm? if so I will have a standard 19mm rear bar up for grabs next week - yours for the princely sum of..............naff all :)

all you'd have to do is cover the postage, which may or may not be a lot!

I just figured mine was the same as US models as the(and I'm embarressed to say my source) wiki said euro cougars were identical to US except for the right hand drive. I read that Australian cougars were sent to the same ford euro factory to be made RHD so just figured UK cougars were the same as mine as well. The only real difference I thought going on in the UK was that you had the ST200 and ST220 mondeos to steal parts out of instead of the SVT Contour. I just had it at a suspension place and I'm sure he said I had a 16mm bar standard :/ Mine is an SX, I think you guys call them Cougar2? or X pack? not sure.

Steve, if I find out for sure that it's 16mm I'd be more than happy to take the 19mm bar off your hands. Thank you very much for the offer.
 
not sure what the SX is, what we call a Cougar 2 (or C2) is the facelifted model with chrome headlights, different bumper and interior, I note yours is a 2001 model so this is probably what you have?

X pack is just an option package (available only on V6) - comprising of heated front screen, multichanger and leather seats.

no probs on the ARB it'll only go to the pikeys - just let me know and it's yours :)
 
I finally found a suspension supplier for Aus cougars.. I assume if the bushings for the sway bar are 17.5mm then the bar is most likely the 16mm bar?
 
G'day mate. welcome aboard. Good to have another Aussie search out their heritage cousins here in the UK. Where is Aussie are you? I grew up in Brisbane, so know the place well, also lived in Whyalla in SA too.
