Just bought a Cougar. It's a 99T 24V X pack in blue. and considering it came with 6 months tax and test it effectively cost me 280 quid! Obviously it has one or 2 issues, but at the price I'm not complaining. rear footwell is damp on passenger side? Door seals? nearside sill has rust hole (worth patching, or can I get replacement sills?).

Slight clunking from front end over bumps, I've heard I need new wishbones at great expense. But handles great and tyre wear seems fine....

not sure if the IRMC is working, it seems to pull well up to 6K+, but I seem to remember my ST24 had a sort of turbo kick at 3.5K, this seems smoother but still pulls strongly...

cheers!

welcome to the forum chrissypb, there are a few of us members in the north east, the knocking could be front drop links, worth checking as much cheaper to replace than wishbones, sill would have to be patched, and there is an easy test for imrc, rev it manually and watch for a movement on link arm for the buttterfly valves, adjacent to the throttle body, all this info cane be found in the subscribers section, along with various discounts. Membership could save you a small fortune,. (y)

Welcome to the club & Cougar ownership (y)

As Dar has said, there's a few of us in the NE, and some of us meet up pretty much every month or so at Durham Services on the A1(M) - new faces always good to see.

Dampness in the footwell - worth checking that your pollen filter is installed correctly
Knocking - most likely the drop links, tenner a pair off ebay and a fairly simple job.
IMRC - again, as Dar said, give it a few blips and look for movement on the link arm.

Hi mate and welcome to the home of the Cougar. Your IMRC problem may just be that the linkage has fallen off the pin. The dampness in the rear foot well may have something to do with the sills being a bit rusty. I don't know if new sills are readily available but they should be easy enough to patch up for a competent welder. Your knocking at the front is more than likely as has been said previously, your drop links. You can check the wishbones by jacking the car up to clear the wheel from the ground then pull and push in all directions and check for excessive movement.

Hello and welcome aboard Chrissy, hope you get the few niggley things sorted out and then the permanent smile will adorn your face for the rest of time!! LOL!!!

Welcome to the club and to the joys of Cougar ownership! You'll find plenty of knowledgeable people and helpful info around here! Oh, and plenty of friendly banter too :)

Hello mate and welcome!

Just noticed that nobody has mentioned Anti-Roll Bar Bushes yet, as a possible cause of your 'knocking' at the front end?

I'd check them out, as their easy to do and even cheaper than buying new drop-links! ;-)

Happy Cougaring!

Think I bought a bit of a pup - the nearside rocker towards the front is rather like swiss cheese. (though mainly below eye line level..) Also a little at the rear end where someone has been careless with a jack....

Didn't think late 90's fords were still this bad! (ka's excepted...) The outer rocker doesn't look particuarly structural to me and the inner sills/floorpan are fine. Do fords let water drain into the sill? (it has no sunroof..) I take bodging in this area is definate no-no for an MOT?

It's a weird one as the arches and everywhere else is rust free....Ideally I'd like a replacement sill as weld patches will look pretty naff....
