Isle of Man
Hello everyone, Just joined and I thought I would introduce myself. Hope you dont mind. My name is Jon. 45 yrs old and live on the Isle of Man. Just bought my first Cougar V6 as a bit of a fixer-upper. Thoroughly enjoy the car, especially as I have upgraded from a Diesel Zafira (Satans Car). As things go by, I hope to learn plenty about these beasts. Am very hands on and hope to do most myself.
Thanks in advance.
Jon

Welcome Jon!

Of course we don't mind - get some pictures up and pull up a sandbag. What does your fixer-upper need doing?

Brakes need sorting while stood for a while, got a whurr from the front end, so guessing thats a wheel bearing. Knock at the back so again without a good look guessing its either rear subframe or suspension mounts. I did only pay £425 with ticket til January so very please.

Thanks for all the kind welcome's. After driving the cat for nearly a week now I have indeed agree I bought the right car, but I don't need to tell you guy's that. For me it ticks all the boxes. After driving in today certain front wheel bearing needs doing. As soon as I get paid I will become a subscriber as there seems alot of good information there.

Couple of Questions Please

  1. How do I turn on the traction control?
  2. How hard are wheel bearing replacements?
  3. How do you turn of brake wear light when someone put non sensor pads in?
  4. Are cougars considered Classic Cars? (If not they should IMHO)
  5. Anyone else on the Isle of Man here?

Cheers Jon.

1 Traction control comes on when the engine is running the only option is to turn it off you will see the traction control light illuminate when it is working.
2 They need to pressed in better to get a garage to do this
3 take the bulb out or short the pins out on the plug
4 No they are not classics they should be!!!!!
5 I don't think there are many Manx men on here

Ah, the old 'Traction Control' question, it's off when the light is on and it's on when the light is off. You can turn it off only when engine is running as Mark has said above. Just press the button on the dash, just left of the steering wheel. It has a picture of the wheel on it. When it is lit - it means that the system is off. I know that sounds odd, but that's the way it works. To be perfectly honest with you, you don't need to turn it off, not unless you really want to spin the wheels and burn some rubber???

BTW, welcome aboard.

I think I have a bypass plug for the brake sensors in the garage, you can have it for postage if you like.

let me know and I'll check tomorrow

Thanks for all the replies.
Yes Please spjmorris if you have, I can send via paypal plus fees.
BTW, I am not actually a Manxman, I'm a Londoner by birth but grew up in Kent. I'm what they call a comeover, but the Isle is a great place for Bikes and Cougars.

Got the rear brakes free'd off today. Now I can enjoy it safely. Quick one though, as I have no literature for the Coug. What are the Tyre pressures please? (V6). I have put about 35psi front and 30 rear as a guess.
Many thanks
Jon
