wolverhampton
hi my name is paul,
i live in wolverhampton. west midlands.
im going to view a v6 this evening and if it is as good as the pics and the guy selling it indicate, then i will be driving my pussy cat...or should i say roaring lion in disguise.
will post photos if this is the one.
is they any thing i should be looking out for when i view.
thanks.

bottom of the rear wheel arch on the sills there is a silly lil add on triangle welded into place. this area can be weak for rust.
Make sure the doors are aligned nice and windows dont foul etc.
Check for paint imperfections and dents as these are my personal pet hate.
Check the front screen works by using a steming pot of tea under it to steam it up - this is a must.
Check for engine oil leaks and noise on start up. that could be oil starvation on 2 cyl.
Check service history
Check water pump

BUY WITH YOUR EYES

Rust around rear wheel arches and sills.
Check subframe for rust too.
Any other body panel can be easily changed but not the rear quarter.
As above, wishbones ad these are pricey to change.
So is the alternator, rev the knackers off it and see if battery light flickers on, if it foes then the alty is more than likely failing.

Good luck :)

The IMRC or Secondaries. Once you've driven around, pop the bonnet. Get your head down near the battery and manually open the throttle. You should see an arm on a cam move backwards when you hit about 3500rpm.

Idle Control Valve. Once the car has warmed up, just let it idle for a minute and see what the rev counter shows. If it bounces all over the place, possibly cutting out it's normally the control valve. £75 from Ford for the replacement part.

Water ingress in the passenger footwell (pollen filter - £8?) or Boot (Rear light seals)

Door seals. Just visually check they're okay. I had damp carpets behind the front seats when mine had gone.

Hi and welcome to ukcougar.com, your in the right place for all things cougar related, as well as some crazy banter. You will also be able to find all the fixes you need in our subscriber sections. Have a browse around the open forums and get a feel for the place. Remember! ukcougar.com is the only workshop manual for the big cat.

Take it for a good blast on a duel carriageway or motorway if possible, drive it over some bumpy surfaces and listen for little knocks and rattles, although usually these are not serious but worth noting (suspension bushings)
When you first go to view the car, take note of the ground under the engine, are there any serious looking oil spots etc. Also look under the rear for the same thing, dealers trick, they turn the car around so the leaks don't show at the other end (y)
The steaming pot under the screen is ok when you have the car at home, but not really viable when it's sat on the sellers driveway  I wouldn't say the screen heater is a big issue anyway.
In general, if the car "feels right" it probably is, and any minor dings from supermarket trolleys etc are to be expected on a ten year old car, just check for badly repaired paintwork.
Pay special attention to the underside as already mentioned, especially the jacking points along the sills, don't be afraid to get on the floor and look up from below.
Good luck with the viewing and hope it is a good one.

thanks for welcome. and the advice..it is duely noted and will be checked when viewing.
im hoping all is good with this car as it has 11months mot and 5months tax.
so i may be having to send you guys some cash to join properly.
and he best make me a coffee so i can check...lol.

Hi Paul and hopefully welcome to ukcougar.com. As said previously, but with your eyes not your heart. If you really want a Cougar that badly, there are quite a few being sold so don't just jump at the first one you see. If you check everything thoroughly and you like what you see, then this could be the one for you. As it currently has 11 months MOT that is quite a good thing, but, MOT's can be had in a number of ways so check thoroughly. Good luck mate hope it goes well for you.

well im now the proud owner of a cougar....picked it up from barnsley...just under a 100 miles from my house.
and it never missed a beat...well happy.have to give me few weeks to become paid up member as insurance want extra money to change over..but hey it great to have a v6 back under my backside. lol.

Congratulations Paul. You'll soon be a new subscriber as well, then you'll no doubt start with a couple of little mods, not much mind, just a couple of very tiny subtle little tiny weenie mods. yes you know, like what i did.

v6, tourmaline, 107,
