Howmanyleft Cougar numbers increasing?

I think Colin meant the actual sheet of paper with the specific build requirements and options on it that accompanied the vehicle as it progressed along the production line informing the assembly workers which parts should be fitted to that particular vehicle eg. a single-pull or double-pull headlamp switch.

The first paragraph backs-up Colin's theory of them sometimes being left in the vehicle.

The decline in road numbers is predictable. The steady SORN figure is curious. Many suspect these are pristine models stored for their golden resurrection.
The ageing vehicles rather than those with calamitous body or engine damage and terminal rot, are likely to pass into SORN on their passage. So a similar number are probably parked repair jobs that become uneconomic or circumstances never allow, even probate disposals.
The Q3 rise like me are maybe ULEZ. My Dodge Diesel has been banned from GLA and living just outside it's time to bring back Cougar V6 for those urban city jaunts at 6mph to the DIY merchants. The joys of eco living from 45mpg to 21mpg.

A car's perceived desirability can go in stages from simply common, not liked in period, to cool and different, many cars in period either simply were just taken for granted as there was so many of them or quite rare at the time and expensive even Italian premium brands went from expensive new to worth very little because they cost so much to fix, a cars profile and public image can get a lift by exposure in say a TV programme like the effect of mk 3 cortina prices after the show life on Mars, a few magazine articles and cars can suddenly become cool, suspect quite a few examples are in storage for that day they become worth something, who would have thought the Capri, escorts etc would be worth what they are fetching now, as cars get increasingly bland on the back of the SUV cult and electric white goods trend something like the cougar becomes a refreshing and different, hopefully numbers on the road increase but that's very optimistic 🤔
