Yes, maybe you do. And maybe you're right to because he's a miserable jack wagon, dead-set on annoying you or drumming up business for the garage next door.

But sometimes... just sometimes... he's saving you from things like this:

totally agree chris.

mot guys do sometimes get a lot of stick when they fail a car (especially for political reasons) BUT i have witnessed a VOSA inspector actually stop a car as it left the garage ,revoke its new mot due to it smoking and then take away the mot guys license to do em.... they are a&&&ols.
they have to be soo careful now days.

Chatting with a trusted MOT tester recently.
On his present very tech full but not fully connected workshop the tester has some opportunities to use his experience and judgement. EG, if he lets me know my discs are reaching the end of their life then I’m going to replace them.
He has the opportunity of a new premises with fully connected MOT bay. Connected as in direct to VOSA or whoever, that means the tester will have no jurisdiction, his judgement and experience isn’t permitted.
If the system says fail then it’s a fail.
Frankly I don’t like the way our world is heading.

same here, there are days when im glad to be old and pity the young.
the company i work for is about to try out a new AI system that they have been sold/told will be able to DIAGNOSE the problem as the caller answers questions about the issues they are having.....it is then going to send us (service engineer)the correct parts that is required to fix it.........apparantly.

cant wait for that s*** storm to start.

i hate the way tech is going.
i know some of it is good but far to much of it is going into not helping us live a better life but instead to monitor us and hammer us if we don't comply.

Have you ever seen the specs for the Swiss MOT?

My friend went out there (long story, but his company was avoiding the UK taxes some 17 years ago) and their testers use white gloves! You have to clean the car's belly. You are not allowed to have unions (repairs) in the hard brake lines that the manufacturer didn't put there. You are not allowed any modification that was not TUV approved for that specific model.

And if their white gloves come away dirty? Fail.

I don't like some of the rubbish that's on our roads, but for pity's sake be careful what you wish for.
