Hello all,

I was looking for cheap and nice looking car. Honda del Sol was my favourite. However my girlfriend saw a Cougar and ask what car is it. I didn't know at first, but thought it shall be expensive. Googled it and was surprised how cheap it was, most were sold at the same price as del sol, who were made in 1993-95 and even cheaper for the ones made in 1996-97.

Started to collect information on them. Started with wiki and reviews at various pages, looked old J. Clarkson review at youtube.

Found a lot responses on the car at http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/mercury/cougar/1999/ how ever most were bad or average.

Some friends who had known people who had a cougar, said that they had spend fixing it for the most of the time.

However information here has convinced me that it is not a bad car, and I still love how it looks. Therefore I am getting one tomorrow (1999, x-pack, manual) for 2000 euros (most other that are sold are cheaper however this one seems to be in good condition). It is a bit more than I was planing for my first car and its fuel consumption isn't pleasure (both more than Honda Del Sol), however I love its look, and hope I shall find information how to take care of her.

Hi Shilis and welcome to ukcougar.com, your in the right place for all things cougar related, as well as some crazy banter. You will also be able to find all the fixes you need in our subscriber sections. Have a browse around the open forums and get a feel for the place. Remember! ukcougar.com is the only workshop manual for the big cat.

Formally I already own the red cat, but it is in different place in Lithuania and my brother shall bring it to me only in the late evening. I shall put some pictures when I have them.

And I wanted to ask more about LPG. Prices of putting it in the car are high (near half price of the car) and I also heard some rumours that it is not good for Cougar since it has American motor with low pressure in cylinders compared to European and Japan cars or smth (as you might understand I not an mechanic).

I guess there is already a discussion on LPG in the forum, I shall look for it in the evening.

The cougar runs quite high compression so gassing it isn't a problem
