I suspect that this video will be popular here. Escort vs. Astra...

Only watched it with no sound so far but the Astra looks a lot looser at the back. I was more a fan of the Astra back then, my gaffer had one. At that time my company vehicle was a MK1 Astra estate 1600. And that was PDQ for a van.
My own car at that time was a V reg Audi 100 saloon. With the wonderful Audi 5 cylinder 2.2 injection. it used to go like stink, without a word of exaggeration I could out drag XR3 and GTE . For a very plain looking 3 box saloon it was great.

hmmm astra GTE 16V versus an RS TURBO..
one has terrible roll and killer oversteer and is missing a turbo and the other sticks to the road like superglue does to flesh and kicks like crazy when the boost cuts in......no brainer really..
look how high off the road that GTE is compared to the scort.
dont get me wrong those gte 16v were fast but i once saw a montego turbo out handle one of them on the track..
my boss had one....and put it in a ditch when it oversteered :ROFLMAO:

My friend, (and best man at my wedding) had an Audi 100 Quattro saloon. Not sure what year, but it was the '82-'88 model.

That thing was beyond absurd. Think you need to slow down? No ya don't. Look where you want to go (usually out a side window) and mash the throttle.

You better believe he had excellnt tyres on that thing though; Pirelli P-6000s as I recall.

Killed eventually by a fried ECU, which was three times the value of the car. What's left of it is probably in your cupboard right now with a Heinz label on it.

Oh, and the Montego Turbo was a criminally under-rated car. My grandad had one and although I never drove it myself, as a passenger it felt like you were standing still and moving the planet with your wheels. The joys of 8V torque an a quiet cabin.

Mine was non Quattro, 1 previous owner and the back seat was pretty much unused. Initially I was a bit put off by the 5 cylinder 2.2 and injection but it turned out to be a crackin car. I ran it for 2 years and did nothing to it , I sold it onto a workmate and he ran it for years too, in hind sight I should have kept it just for the plate. 3 letters, 1 numeral then the V when that was at the end of the plate..
Much later I had an MG montego, 2.0 litre non turbo but for pennies after it was returned after a theft. Paid next to nothing for it and kept that for a couple of years too after I rebuilt the locks.
The Cougar is only my second ever Ford. My Dad worked for Ford so it was probably just me being a rebel not to want one.

and from the start i did out accelerate it.....then his boost cut in and i might as well have been driving a 16l cortina :ROFLMAO:
