Hi, I'm the proud owner of a recently acquired Ford Cougar and am trying to source a rear quarter window (driver's side). Autoglass have told me that the part is now obsolete according to Ford and so I'd like to know if anyone can help ? Many thanks
 
Welcome to the club Jamie. If Autoglass can't get hold of the rear quarter glass, it would seem that your only option is to find someone breaking one (there's currently a couple on here, Scunnycougar's black C2 springs to mind) and see if the required window can be very carefully removed for you. I would imagine it'd be a bit of a man task to get one out in one piece though as I think they're bonded in place, like a windscreen.
 
You will need to score the bonding from the inside mate and then get someone to put preasure on the glass (pushing from the inside) whilst you do the score the bonding on the outside, then you will need something like parachute cable to work through starting at the back of the quarter panel and working forward. THIS IS NOT A QUICK JOB its also thwart with danger as the glass can crack under strain
 
They must come out as I've seen then for sale on Ebay as 'used' items in the past. As previously mentioned though, wouldn't be a job for the impatient :cry:

welcome to the club try merlin for parts you need and tell him the best way to remove is score sealent then use a bike brake cable like a saw use wood on each end rap cable around this is how auto glass remove screens and windows .

When Autoglass and National Windscreens have done my windscreens (and believe me I've had a lot of them! :eek:) all they used was a very long stanley blade. With the blade almost parallel to the glass, they just cut the bonding from the inside, going round and round until the glass breaks free. Then lift gently out and cut and clean away the excess bonding that remains ready for the new bond.

No need for bike cables and the last thing you want to do is apply pressure on the glass.
Applying pressure will stress it and break it, and if it breaks free when applying pressure the glass will just end up shattered on the floor.

Be gentle slow and patient.

It's the side rear quarter glass Manos, I believe from what others have said it's sealed in differently to a front/rear windscreen, hence the reason for using the paracord to saw through the rubber. I think Liam has already done one of these before.
