Hi all,

Just thought I'd say hi - I've moved from an MGF world (with a great fanbase and forums) to a Cougar - hope these forums are just as friendly :)

I wanted some cheapish car to replace my MGF I wrote off recently - I wanted something simlar price but just as fun, if not more fun, and with back seats! So I ended up picking up a 2000 (W reg) V6 with X spec in blue for well under a grand and I'm well happy - it's done 110k miles but you'd never know it - I assume these engines go on on forever!

I have a few things though wrong with it:

CD changer is struggling to read CDs - tried a cleaner but still often just says error E2. I'm going to strip it down and give it a good clean out - any tips?

Tracking seems off - steering wheel has to be held slightly left to go straight - anything I need to mention when getting it done? Laser 4 wheel tracking or what?

Leather seats, esp drivers, could do with some new filling - any tips here? Only really on the sides of the bottom part so help hold me in one place while flying round corners :)

Washers - makes a noise when squirting the front and back windscreens but it just dribbles out under the front right bumper. How do I get to the pump? I hope it's just a loose pipe.

Cheers
Steve

Hello and welcome to big cat ownership. You will find the ride more comfotable than the MGF and the engine is a lot less fragile although they do need regular servicing. Cd changer could be the laser although a few people have upgraded so there maybe some second hand ones available
4 wheel alignment is the way to go. Seat bolsters are problematic they where design for the US market and don't allow for the narrower european butt.
The washer bottle is on the drivers side inner wing remove the front splash guard and you will see the motor has 2 feeds prize out the motor there is a rubber filter pull that out it will be full of slime and crud, clean this and reassemble and your washers should work fine.
Have a look around the sight it is prety active and there is some excellent banter to be had. Enjoy.

Hi mate, welcome to the forum and good on you for becoming a Cat owner!

Firstly, don't worry about the mileage, mine's done over 145,000 miles and is still going strong! As for your problems, the seat is a common issue - maybe some of the other members could point you in the right direction, or maybe look at getting a replacement. You definitely want 4 wheel laser tracking done and you should be able to get to the washer pump from underneath, by jacking up the car - if memory serves me right, the pump should just pull out, I had one a few years ago that had a blocked filter, just cleaned it out and hey presto!

Hope this helps and happy motoring in your new Ford!

hi steve, welcome to the forum, you will find a good bunch on here, subscription will open up a wealth of knowledge , and save you a fortune. the washer pump can be done quite easily as said front drivers side, either remove or bend the under engine/splash guard and you will see the bottle and 2 lines, ensure these are connected as sometimes back pressure can cause these to pop off,
get your tracking done , it will save u rubber, and finally upgrade or repace your seat, get them on ebay every now and then, you want one that has had a "5 stone wet" lass driving it for last 30000 miles,

Hi Coops and welcome to the home of the Cougar. This forum is as friendly as any you have ever seen, you have answers to your questions already. I am sure you will enjoy Cat ownership more than MG.

Thanks for the welcome guys! Some nice tips there to try out tomorrow evening if I can get back from work early enough! It's mad how the nights are already drawing in noticeably earlier :(

Oh forgot about the aircon isn't blowing cold either, but I've got a (kind of) relation who can regas that for me and check it for leaks.

Hello and welcome aboard Steve. Hope you get the few niggly things sorted and then the grin will be forever permanent! lol

Hi and welcome Steve, know what you mean about the seats, my drivers seat is the same. I have taken mine to a local auto upholsterer for a quote to refoam it, comes out at about £150. Lot of money but I guess it will last a while and look right. The alternative is to pick up a cloth passenger seat, swap the bases over and fit the cover from your existing seat. Great choice of car, get some pics up as soon as you can (y)
