Right my car only came with one remote key (the remote doesnt work), I know u need two keys to programe them yourself so whats my options to get another key sorted then pref a new remote one. The key i have is pritty well mullered i tried to re sync the remote but no joy and also the boot button feels broken. If i change the battery in the current one am i likley to loose the key i have to the imobaliser ?

You can get a replacement remote section and program that to the car on it's own. If it's a standard 3 button one just get one from any Ford key with the same or buy one on eBay. Get yourself a blank standard red chip key cut and programmed by someone with the gubbins to do so and then program as many keys as you like ;)

Ahhhh like your thinking didn't think of just getting the red key done then going from there !!

You'll need that new key to be programmed to your car (ie your car hooked up to a ford diagnostics machine). Then you would use the fact that you have two keys to be able to program any new ones.

It's generally cheaper to pop to a decent key cutters and get them to clone your existing chip. The down side to this is that you don't have two unique keys so you can't programme a third but it's probably cheaper to have a third cloned anyway!

I've been down this route a few times with Fords and my personal choice now would be:

I'd start by getting a clone done just incase you break your current key (a clone standard key is cheap - or you could get a remote key)

Then I'd buy a new remote part for your existing key. This can then be swapped over - you just have to carefully remove the transponder chip from your old key - they are glass and easily break (hence why I said to get the clone done first!). Then insert this into your new remote part and clip it on to your old key blade.

So if I get a second hand remote one could they clone my key to that ?

They could clone your existing immobiliser chip onto a new chip and insert it into the 2nd hand key.

You've got three parts to the key:

The blade (needs cutting to your car so that it can turn in the locks and the ignition)
The Chip (a glass tube in the remote which can be removed and swapped)
The remote - these can easily be programmed to operate the locks without the need for multiple keys etc

If you had 2 unique working keys then you could programme a 3rd key in yourself - you could just buy a second hand one and use the chip inside the 2nd hand key - you'd just need a new blade.

As you don't you have two options:

Option 1. Buy a 2nd hand key, then get a blade cut (cheap on ebay) - take this key to a garage with proper ford diagnostics - they will then charge you about £50 to programme it to your car.

Option 2. Buy a 2nd hand key and a blank blade and take it to a decent key cutters who will clone your existing chip onto a new chip and cut your blade to match. Last time I asked for a price for this it was £30 at our local key cutters.

Option 1 is techincally better as you can then add further keys but it's whether your really need to or not?

Ok cool well been playing today to at least try get my remote working. Put a new battery in and tried to sync it with no joy managed to find another ford remote key as my boot button on key is broke so thought that might stop it working. Put my transponder in the other key attempted to sync it up and nothing still I noticed the alarm light was confirming the sync but still no remote. So I checked the fuses and pulled the 20amp alarm one it was fine. When I put fuse back the locking system woke up and I have a working remote and the new one has the boot button too lol just got to get a clone done now for a spare.
