Bought some liquid air freshener from Halfords and it had a hole in the back and leaked over the top dashboard. Peeled up a layer of paint like it were methylated spirit or something.

I plan to take it to Halfords with the receipt, but what a buggar! Do I have it repainted, or do I replace it?

I would suggest replacing it, I think you will find it hard to remove all residue of a chemical like that so getting paint to adhere will be almost impossible :(

Agreed replace, especially if you don't know what the actual chemical was.

Sorry to hear it though mate :-(

Dash tops are easy to find, when I got rid of my cougars I passed two on to fellow members.

Stick up a wanted ad and someone will surely have one (y)

Friend of mine put one in her mini just before going on holiday for two weeks, when she got back it was like acid had eaten her dash away and cost her £1200 to repair . Insurance would not pay and she got nowhere with tesco where she bought it from

In fairness, if it wasn't a Tesco branded product, the liability for that damage lies with the manufacturer. Tesco are just a resale agent. Damage caused by faulty goods is down to the manufacturer of that product.

Thats bad news Olly but not the first time i've heard of this happening and very rarely can you win a claim for damage. Most of these air fresheners have warnings on them or at least on the packaging regarding the risk of damage to plastic parts.
Repairing the binnacle cover is also near impossible as they have a rubberised skin bonded over the black plastic moulding, i found this out to my cost a few years back when i had a go at doing the leather cover mod. When i applied the evostick and left it to cure for contact, the whole surface had bubbled up which meant i had to scrape all the rubber skin off to leave bare plastic.
Having said all of that, i've had a spare C1 dash binnacle cover in the cave for quite some time but the vents are painted silver. Your welcome to it if we can get it to you.

It was attached to one of the central vents and ruined the plastic of the top dash piece that roofs the speedo .

Alan, if you have one available, I'll happily take it from you - I'll PM you.

Halfords had a look, signed my receipt and said get a quote for a repair and they'll look to reimburse me. Very good of them. Whilst I was there, I got a tree!

PM replied to.
Yours for the asking Olly, the problem is getting it to you as i'm already struggling to find a box large enough to post a C2 version to flamencoassassin down in Cambridge.

Are you going the M11 - A120 route? I'm situated 15 minutes out from Braintree. So that you know for prep, Colchester's A12 will probably be busy around 3pm and again at 5 as it's the home derby at their stadium

I'll be going down there first thing and staying in the area for a couple of days, I might be going to the match it should be a good game!

my route will be M1 > M25 > A12 etc

Has this managed to get to you by any chance?

If not, would it be best if I started a thread? Of course, there's no urgency
