Mercury str Cougar parts

iv been looking for shocks and come across "Mercury Cougar Koni STR.T front /Rear Damper" from DC performance. was,nt sure if they would fit. any ideas if there any good??

so long as the cougar's are the same years, then yes however mercury done the cougar as a model for a number of years before this shape and are different models, if you google it you can see the different shapes and models

Yes but Cougar ones have a different damping rate from the Mondeo. There's also several different damping rates for the Mondeo depending on the model e.g. sandard, ST24, ST200, Si, the latter three being sport setups.
The Cougar rear dampers are also a slightly different shape for extra wheel clearance. Whether Mondeo ones will fit will depend on your wheel/tyre combination and offset.

I thought the Mercury cougars had different suspension as ours was uprated for the UK market where we actually have to turn corners

Basically all European Cougars got the USA 'Sports Pack' option as standard. The yanks had to pay extra for it but their base models were much cheaper and lower specced than ours e.g. no side air bags, seats with fixed head restraints etc.

The 'Sports Pack' included stiffer suspension (dampers and springs), rear disc brakes (yes, standard USA models had rear drums!), 4 bolt front wishbones (same as ST200) and I think they threw in a rear spoiler too.

these will set you back a pretty penny to get from america, for all they do make a difference to the handling its not worth spending £600 for the set plus shipping and possibly plus import duty.easily looking at £900 then you will have the costs of new springs as well.My old cat has the same koni's fitted to them but i was lucky in getting them

just realised its a uk site oops lol

I went into a Nationaltyre place the other day to get a quote on 225x16x50s and was told that the wheels on the cougar were the wrong size and were not Ford alloys. After debating for a while they decided to prove me wrong and offered to show me my aftermarket rims. Up it goes on their jack, off comes an alloy and then they all stood stunned and confused by the Ford stamp on the back of the alloy. Too many people out there who are happy to take our cash think that our Cougars are just Mondeo coupes. Beware when getting shocks or anything done at one of those places, and also an oil change is £31, if you let them, and they'll put in what their computor tells them - 10/40 oil, again wrong. Debated that as well, muppets. Will I get the tyres from there? Don't think so!

They're generally in it to screw everybody that comes through the door, most of them are plonkers who'll tell you all manner of lies to get you to spend, at one place I was told that mine had been in a bad smash which accounted for the marks on the lower part of the rear quarters, but since every cougar has the same lines, then every cougar must have been in a smash, this particular bloke wanted to frighten me into selling my car to him cheap. Idiot!

The oil issue scares me, I took a Mondeo at Kwikfit a couple of years back and they put the wrong stuff in and the engine had a heart attack 3 weeks later. Ended up being broken for parts. Now I do my own but the oil filter on our 2 litres are a pain to undo.
