A normal Saturday would consist of me having a lie in, doing a few odd jobs and then relaxing for the rest of the day... but yesterday was the complete polar opposite.

It started with a early MOT and to my surprise passed first time, with only an oil leak as an advisory. This is the first time in 5 years of ownership that it has sailed through without having to be retested!

Souvenir: 1 pen.

Driving back from the MOT this happened....

This is not something I ever wish to happen again or happen to anyone else. Seeing a child ride up the bonnet and then being thrown off as I came to a stop has really shaken me up. Thankfully he was fine and got up straight away.

To cut a long story short, I was at that spot for at least another hour, 2 cop cars attended the scene, I was put into the back of one of them, breathalysed (which returned 0) and asked a load of questions. I then mentioned I had a dashcam, so one of the officers came and sat in my passenger seat and we watched it back. Because of the video, he was happy that I was not at fault and that I could have done nothing more to avoid the incident. He even commented that it was worth the investment of the dashcam just for this one time.

Souvenir: A breathalyser tube.

Then to finish the day off me and my girlfriend went to view a house to buy. It has great potential and it really is too good to be true. It's at the upper end of our budget, but we sat down and crunched the numbers and should be okay. I'll be phoning the estate agents tomorrow to place an offer .

Souvenir: A lifetime of debt (maybe).

I'll be quite happy for next Saturday to be boring again

jeeess mate.

what a day you've had..
glad the kid was alright...he's clearly in need of the green cross code man....why have we stopped telling our kids to be careful near roads?
hope your alright also mate...it would mess me up if a kid ran out in front of me..i cant imagine the sheer dread that must have gone through your mind at that time.
and yet more proof of how important a dash cam is...i wonder if the officer would have been so nice if you hadn't had this critical piece of evidence...
im trying desperately to get my employer to get one for the van...as im in it all day.

is the car alright??? no dents i hope:oops:

as for the house...no better time to buy the way the prices are going up...the value of my house has quadrupled since we brought it...and thats something to think about...the longer your in it the more valuable it becomes..
good luck mate(y)

Glad to hear that boring day turned out to end with a positive outcome Mark. That must have been one horrible incident. It's like a scene from one of them old Kids crossings films we used to get on tv. One kid, all he sees is the park across the road! At least you were aware enough and responsible.
Roll on next Saturday eh! Oh and well done on the pass (y)

Glad the boy and you are OK Mark.
Well done on the MOT pass, no doubt that helped with the police too (brakes), and good luck with the house offer.

And enjoy the lie-in next Saturday!

I'm with Manos; so glad that this accident ended up with no real harm. Kids are dumber than a sack of hammers and, even if you do your best, there's not much you can do when they decide to accidentally brake-check you.

Tracey (Ms. Mako) had the same damned thing happen to her in her 2nd week of having a full license. Dashcams weren't a thing back then - I'm not even sure that colour film was - but she was lucky enough that it was witnessed.

If your experience was like hers, I know you'll have been shaken up. And knowing that, I hope you won't blame yourself for something that you had no control over.

Oh - and well done on the pass. ;)

Thanks for all the support guys. The car seems to have come away completely unscathed, although with the amount of stone chips on my bonnet, it's hard to tell if there's any new.

Regarding the house, phoned with an offer today, got a call back about an hour later seeing if we could increase it at all, okayed that with Kathryn and placed another offer. Half an hour later got a call saying the offer has been conditionally accepted! My emotions are currently all over the place. I'm not sure this week could get any crazier.

No lie in this Saturday, got a meeting booked with their mortgage advisor at 9am, d'oh.

well done mate(y)
nothing better than moving into a new home..hope it all goes well.

Hi MrT. Not sure who you mean when you say "their mortgage advisor "
Whilst at risk of showing my bias if this is an advisor recommended by the estate agent be sure to check what offers you can get from elsewhere.
Maybe who ever you bank with or speak to some family members and see who they are using and check their point of view.,
You're likely to be tied into this for a while so it's worth dedicating the time to getting a better deal.
Buying a mortgage is like buying a car, only more important. And I guess you didn't buy the first cougar you looked at ?
I got tucked up a little on my first mortgage as I didn't check out the alternatives. Simply turned up said yes and signed the papers. Twas a good while back !
