Moving sunroof when stuck

greg hunt

I have now fitted sunroof from Wayne 45 fine and it works but after looking at all web info i am not that confident to use perhaps untill i use some white waterproof grease on it.To answer some questions earlier now that i have the old one out i can see that there is an allen key fitting in the centre of motor gear box that you can turn by hand but it is only of use if motor stops working and all linkages are ok, in my case motor / gearbox are fine but links sheared off so would not move roof.so if anyone needs a motor / gearbox /relay /frame/ black top i have these over so contact me.cheers greg

In my experience, especially with the mondeo sunroof, too much grease up there is as bad as none at all. Grease will attract dirt/grit etc. If you must grease the runners, just use a smear. It's a sunroof not a traction engine

Can someone please post some pictures of the runner s that break and I'll see if my mate could manufacture some custom aftermarket ones.

If he says it's a goer I would need a set of broken ones for him to copy if some wants to donate some dead runners

already on it dave with goblins old sunroof frame and runners, looks like the plastic connector where the cable connects is the weakest point, got my mate trying to fabricate in steel at the moment (y)

if you want photos this is a copy from other sunroof thread (sunroof stuck)...... if your interested in making parts have a look at these sites i found.my tracks are good but the driven part attached to cable has broken away leaving part of Ali inside of plastic just like in picture page 2 of 5 (beaver. vinu) but also long arm that runs in outer track has also sheared off. http://www.newcougar.org/forums/thread61122.html and http://beaver.vinu.edu/sunroof/index.htm good luck greg

The gease i mentioned earlier is white lithium grease sold by 3-in-one and ambersil both in spray form from Buck and Hickmans. It uses are discribed as a tenacious and long-lasting white grease for the lubrication of hinges, tracks, runners and moving parts. Resists walter wash-off. Protects against corrosion. Not sure if white grease was originally use on cougar but it was white grease on a shogun i had and with this discription its got to help.
cheers Greg
