Hi all, Just thought I would drop by and introduce myself, I have a couple of questions to ask, but I'll leave them till a bit later, I have just purchased my 1st cougar, a S reg 2.5 V6 in silver, bought it last week, with NO MOT, I know it was stupid, but hey I had to start somewhere.... I always liked the cougar so thought to myself just get one, anyway took it for an MOT today and guess what..... it failed, bet you thought I was going to say it passed..... lol, anyway I was pleasantly surprised to be honest as I thought it would fail on more than it actually has.
There are 6 items that need to be addressed,
1.near side front outer sill corroded.
2.near side rear anti roll bar linkage excessive play in a bush/pin
3.offside rear anti roll bar linkage excessive play in a bush/pin
4.near side front suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement
5.off side front suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement
6.parking brake efficiency below requirements, should be 16% only at 10%.

And that is it. So taking into account the car had been sat for a few months, I think it's not too bad, there are a couple of advisories but I will sort them out fairly easily, now my questions are, to anyone who may still be reading this, is, the near side and off side front suspension arm pin/bushes that have excessive play in them, do I need just the bush replacing or is it a complete arm that needs to be done, and can anyone tell me the best place to purchase any of the bushes/pins. Any help or advise or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome.

items 4 and 5 are front wishbones which are expensive.

I have a good off side one for sale (used) if you are interested?

Anti roll bar stuff is not expensive, and sounds like you need handbrake cables or your calipers looking at?

Hi, Thanks for the reply, and yeah I would be interested in the o/s front wishbone, still need a n/s one though, if you know of anyone who may have one, handbrake should be fairly straight forward as tester said prob needs adjusting as it was not too much out.

Mansfield eh! :)
Welcome to ukcougar.org.

No 2 and 3) Rear droplinks are cheap enough, get a pair off ebay for ie: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161015122460?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

4 and 5) Your biggest expense is going to be the front wishbones unless you can get hold of a cheap-ish used pair.

6) could be calipers sticking or stretched cables, again the cables are about £13 each iirc but check the pads and calipers first.

Where abouts are you in Mansfield, i might be able to pop over and advise.

You will find we are a friendly bunch. You are located superbly (central) for a lot of members.

Sounds like your cougar needs a little helping hand.....and a helping hand is often available.

You have a pm btw

I know Woodhouse ( or woodus ) if you are from round here, quite well, will have to keep an eye out for your cougar, is it your daily drive?

Welcome to the club. Pretty handy being down the road from Sir Pid of Mansfield too ;)

If the inner bushes are still in good order then you can replace just the ball joints but it does mean you have to drill the rivets out and bolt on new joints. If the bushes are screwed too then it is replacement arms as mentioned.

Yep, Wuddus lol. Daily drive since 2006 (y)

Um, you sure about that!

well, erm, yes, why not. I've been driving cougars daily since 2006, zetecs, V6's, even a C2 zetec :)

Good post.

I've pm'd Paul re membership. I think a "meet" would be handy so i can give his car the "once over" If all that's needed are ball joints, then it's a massive saving on the wishbones. (y)
