Hi Guys n Gals,
just bought my Cougar a few weeks ago, and yeah I love it but I have a few problems with it :(
Can you point me in the right direction for troubleshooting on here?
also can anyone tell me if the Chilton Mercury Cougar manual from the US would be suitable for a UK car? (apologies if this is a silly question)

:)

best piece of advice i can give you is subscribe to this forum. It opens up the only real manual for the Ford Cougar.

What sort of problems do you have?

I have a chilton manual - to be honest a waste of money. I have used it for a few things but got far more info through this site

The manual can be useful for torque settings etc but I found it a bit vague at times when it explains the process of doing a job on the car. The photographs can be a little dark too, what few there are.

Welcome to the club, if you explain what your issues are, then I am sure that we can help between us.

Hello and Welcome aboard Mr Will Smith! lol Good to see you have yourself the correct colour Coug!! lol but sorry to hear you have problems with it. Get your subs paid and I'm sure all the answers and help your looking for will be found on this forum.

Welcome to the forum & Cougar ownership, buddy (y)

The subscriber's area is a wealth of knowledge with problem sections and 'How to' threads, but if you give us a brief idea of what issues you're having I'm sure some of the guys won't mind pointing you in the right direction 'under the counter' so to speak

Hi mate and welcome to the home of the Cougar. A Chilton manual will cost you around 12 to 15 quid - why not just add a few quid and get access to everything you will ever need to know about your car through subscription to the club. I think you will find it is the best 18 quid you will ever spend on your car.

Thanks guys, I will get signed up ASAP :)
its just a few electrical issues.
1) more often than not the indicators don't work, It still clicks to turn off when I straighten the steering wheel but doesn't click on and off when it should and the indicator lights don't operate.
2) sometimes when the a/c is switched on heat comes through the vents
3) no air comes through the dash vents, the air only blows through the windscreen vent
4) central locking doesn't work, I have changed the battery in the fob but I still need to unlock the doors by key separately.
5) the boot release switch doesn't work

so not much really lol

Oh dear, just a few niggles to iron out then lol.

1) Indicators - sounds like there is a problem with the stalk and you may need to replace it (had similar with one of my old cars, not a Coug)

2) A/C - sounds like the condensor may be knackered?? Have you had it re-gassed? Ask them to put a dye through to check for leaks. If you need a new condensor then have a look on here as a couple of us have had new ones - I got mine from Germany and only cost me £60 including shipping.

3) Dash Air Vents - sounds like some type of blockage - think you may need to take dash apart to investigate further. What position is the switch in when trying the air vents??

4) Central locking - after changing the batteries in the fob, if not done straight away, you need to re-program the key fob - there is a "How To" on here once you have subscribed.

5) Boot release - not sure on this one, but again, there is a "How To" on this forum for that.

Best of luck matey.

3) will almost certainly be a broken vacuum pipe, normally the tiny one that comes from the inlet manifold and disappears behind the engine, found this out by experience, check it out and then follow it through to hvac unit.

Numbers 4 and 5 I've just dealt with!

It's the 20A Fuse 25 (or maybe 24....the yellow one!) in fuse box behind the glove box. I had tried the new battery, fob re-program and I also reset the Siemens ECU.

Quick read here as a newbie and the fuse change solved the lot.

Hope this helps.
