I picked up my first Cougar yesterday after winning it on eBay. It seems pretty solid, with no obvious rust and 75,000 miles on the clock (mots and service history back that up). It is a 2000 v6 with the x pack in blue.
I picked it up from Kent and drove it down to Plymouth yesterday, and aim to head home to Gloucestershire in it today.
The only issues I have found with it so far are the air con isn't any cooler than the outside air and the fuel gauge doesn't work.

Welcome to the Forum.
See you are in Cheltenham,
I'm hosting a local meet August w/e 30th,
hope you can make it,
cheers,
Wil

Not with my lead feet:LOL:

Joking apart, you do make a very good point.

The furthest I've ever gone (on the last gasp of fuel) in my V6 is 386 miles. But I've also managed to get no more than 160 miles out of a tank.

This question is not one that has a definitive answer. Once again my advice would be, "If you want to own a late 90s V6 Duratec, you'd better not be worrying about fuel use."

Hello and welcome aboard. Where in Plymouth were you heading? I'm down in Ivybridge not far from Plymouth.

I guess that means I should get the fuel gauge fixed sooner rather than later.

Plymstock, but only over night. Now safely back in the Cotswolds.

I dropped it to a Ford specialist to get it checked over. They have suggested doing the brake pipes (noted as corroded on the last few MOTs) and fuel sender at the same time. Only problem is they can't find a pattern fuel sender for it. Does anyone here have one for sale (2000 (X plate) V6?).

Thanks.

The gauge rarely agrees with the computer, and neither agree with reality. The driving you do - notwithstanding your daily commute if you use it for that - will confuse the heck out of that stupid robot.

All I will say is this: Fill up. Do a known distance. Fill up again. Work out your MPG from that. Adjust your expectation accordingly if you go on a road trip, but don't expect to get more than 360 miles.

*Sigh* Ugh. Yes they do rot, but I'd love to know how many combination garage/MOT stations have bought Bentleys on the profits from unnecessary brake line replacement.

Do you mean the entire submerged pump?
