Just bought a V6 2001, very pleased with the performance and economy. just one question I find the power steering a little hard is this normal?

First point of call is to check the fluid level and the condition of the fluid. It may be nothing - have you driven Fords before? A lot of manufacturers tend to 'over-assist' their steering making them too light and lacking feel. Fords tend to be heavier with a lot more feel to the steering.
Unless you are losing fluid or you have any odd noises/notchy steering (some hissing/whining from the power steering pump is normal on full lock) I wouldn't worry about it - it's probably normal
Hello Zac, Welcome and as previously said if the steering feels heavy and your tyres are inflated that is perfectly fine, the cougar has heavier steering than any other power assisted ford I have driven but you get used to it quickly
Come and join us all on the 8th sept and ask any questions you have outstanding whilst tucking into Bacon roles or if you dont eat bacon you can just have a roll
There is a get together on the 8th in Huntingdon where a couple of cougars are being fixed up even if you are not very mechanical it's a great group of lads who can have a laugh and you can keep your hands clean and learn a bit about the cougar at the same time.
