Morning All,

Newly registered here having purchased my first Ford Cougar yesterday. I am now the happy owner of a V reg 2 litre Cougar. I have a couple of questions I am hoping can be answered to help me out with a couple of queries I have. Hopefully I have not placed this message in the incorrect area of the forum!

Firstly:
The seats in the car are currently manually adjusted. Would I be able to swap them out for electrically operated leather seats? What I want to know is are all the electrical connections already in the car and is it merely a need to remove the old seats and replace with the new electrically operated ones? Also how easy is it to remove and replace the front and rear seats?

Secondly:
The electric key fob is not working and I need to manually open and close the door. If it is not a battery problem with the fob, how easy is it to order a replacement key for the car?

Hopefully someone will be able to help me out and provide some answers to help me improve the car a little.

Cheers

Hi and welcome to the home of the Cougar (y)

Seats are a straight swap - all the wiring is in place to its plug and play. Just make sure you get leather from a car of similar age - earlier cougars had different wiring connectors so need modifying to fit seats from a later car. Well worth checking the wiring connectors under the seat to see what type of connectors you have.

As for the key, it may just need reprogramming. Provided you have two keys coded to the car it's a 5 minute job to reprogram the remote fob. There is a guide in the How-To section on how to do this (y)

Everybody,

Many thanks for your rapid replies and responses, very much appreciated. I know where to come now for any further tips or advice!!

Hi mate, had the same problem with my Cougar remote key, I ordered a new key from ebay for £15 and used the blade from my non functioning remote I then removed the glass tube transponder from the old remote and fitted in place of the one supplied with the new key, all I did then was program the new remote to the car by cycling the ignition off - II 4 times and pressing the new remote button hey presto car starts fine because you have original blade and transponder fitted in new key.
