COLINW

Hi All,
I have just bought a 1999 V reg 2.5 V6 and would appreciate any help or need to know hints. I will be collecting the car on Sun and anticipate all sunday getting to know her what should I look out for I have been advised that the front brakes need changing and that there is a possible vacum on the power steering will report more tomorrow once collected the car from N.E

Check that the rear subframe is ok, a few have started to deteriorate lately, check the front wishbone rubbers, they are part of the wishbone and are very expensive to replace. Listen to the engine for any bottom end rattles around 3000 rpm, if it rattles, then it could be the big end bearings. Check the oil level too, if it's low then it might show that it's not been looked after as well as it should've been, which could/would contribute to premature wear.

Hello and welcome aboard Colin, good to hear you are joining the Cat family! lol There is lots of info that will be helpful to you on this forum, however, you will need to subscribe to "unlock" all the goodies and for £18 per year, it'll be the best money you have ever spent. One thing to really look out for is the front wishbones, as they are very expensive, around £300 each, although through the club you can get discount so would make it a little cheaper. Other than this, there's not too much on the Coug to go wrong, just look for the usual stuff. The Coug is based on the Mondeo Mk2, so spares are fairly eay to get hold of. Best of luck with your purchase, hope to see a few pic's of your Coug once you have purchased.

Hi
Thanks for the welcome Ive just returned from Newcastle after collecting the car and drove 135 miles with the biggest grin possible
The car has done 106000 with full service history and i can only find minor faults that some would not bother about arieal top missing, after market alloys fitted (one cracked) non standard radio fitted and a minute hole in drivers door boulster leather.
Subframe appears ok no welding done anywhere wishbones replaced 6 months ago serviced 3 months ago with a K+N filter fitted.
Cant believe how lucky i am to have got this car at such a knock down price (dont think the owner knew what a gem he had)
Will post pics shortly after shes had a bath and a wax

Hi Colin, and welcome to UK Cougar. At least with the wishbones already done you'll be saved the biggest headache these cars suffer in terms of expense. Hope you enjoy many a happy mile and the grin never slips (y)
