have bought a 2.5 v6 cougar with 92.000 on the clock full service history on a 2001 plate and under heavy accellerating or accellerating in a high gear with low revs the car judders.this happens all the time the other day I was driving back to Newcastle from Essex and the power started dying from around 90mph getting slower and slower .couldn't accellerate and then all power died.switched off the car, revved it hard and it started to work again.20 miles down the road lost all power again.....Every time I pressed the accellerator the power died.crawled down the hard shoulder in 1st gear for about 5 mins wouldn't go past 5mph.switched off for 5 min's worked again...just made it home.people say plugs and leads...egr valves...but I have been reading about people who have fixed all these problems and still no luck...apparently the cougars fuel pumps are very poor and don't send enough fuel too the engine when fuel levels are under half a tank...This is when my power loss happens...juddering happens all the time.please help as I don't want to sell her

Certainly sounds like a fuelling issue, we had a member with very similar symptoms and it was a split pipe on the fuel pick-up...bit hazy on the details hopefully someone else can remember better than I

Welcome aboard :)

have you replace the fuel filter recently if not place to start, get the one from fords or if a 3rd party make sure it has the plastic clips as these generally break

I've had this once or twice. It caried with which air filter I used. Check for air leaks after the MAF and possibly run some injector cleaner through a tank of petrol.

It could be a lean misfire, which I suffered with for a time
