Hi All,

Thought I'd finally post up (apologies Al) some "demo" rear reflective stickers that Al has done for those with lense covers who want a reflector for the rear. Anyway here are the two samples:

and this one I was just having some fun with and removed the reflective sticker I put on the other week and stuck it over the top of one of the samples:

So, tell us what you think guys (for Al's benefit)

**Al, if you want to move this to your "sticker/graphics" section then that is fine with me (y)

Good idea, and the stickers look fine, just not my cup of tea to be honest..

I'm with you, they look awful imo, but I'm less diplomatic, if you thought that they looked fine you'd be clawing through Al's door for him to sell you a set.:)

You know what i mean don't you..?? the stickers do actually look fine, just not stuck on my car.. :geek:

I'm going to be brutelly honest (apologies Al) - didn't like either of them. Al is right they are red, but look too different from the red on the brake lenses. I think I'm going to have a word with Mart and get my lense covers carbon wrapped and forget the reflectors altogether. Or buy set of lenses the same as Al's and still get them carbon wrapped.

ps. If your wondering why my lenses look so shocking is because I have cut them back with some wet and dry as was thinking about re-spraying them.

Thanks for being the guinnea pig Tim. If i could have tested them on my own car i would have, but i appreciate the honesty of all replies. I know they're not going to be to everybody's taste, but the point of the excercise was to give peeps a possible alternative. Where would we be if we all wanted and liked the same stuff eh :). The options are there though so all/any suggestions for reflector designs are welcome, just give me something to work with. (y)

I like the idea on light covers, prefer the second option without the centre piece Tim

Light covers looking good too mate, are they sprayed or carbon wrapped or somefing

LOL!! No, light covers I have sanded back ready for re-spray or to be carbon wrapped. But no, they are just down to the original black plastic. I need to PM Mart to find out how much they'd cost to carbon wrap.

Sorry to bring things back on topic....

Forgetting about cosmetics, these reflectors are effectively mounted on the side of the car. Do they actually reflect rearwards to satisfy the MOT or just to the side?

Wouldn't it be better to fit a reflector in the OEM position on the inside of the lights next to the tailgate?
I'd suggest a circle to go around the keyhole and the same for the other side (except there's no keyhole).
IMHO this would look much better than the side teardrop shape too and will definitely reflect rearwards to satisfy the MOT.

I think the MOT subject was satisfied earlier in the thread Manos ie: this section is not actually the reflector part of the rear light unit, it is infact the inner end of the unit, so any reflector at the outer edge is irrelevant to the MOT. YOur suggestion of a inner reflector is of course a good one and can easily be sorted :)

MOT was not mentioned until my post Alan. And Tim's first post says....
for those with lense covers who want a reflector for the rear.
....when the reflectors shown are for the side.
So I was just making it clear to anyone who thought these would solve the light cover/reflector/MOT issue that the above design wouldn't.
That was my interpretation.

Sorry for being so pedantic.

Round circles around the keyhole, and the same size on the other side where there is no keyhole would look much better IMO too. How you would get the decal to follow the contours around the keyhole side would be interesting. I know trying to fit decals onto similar curves on RC car bodies is nigh on impossible.

I thought about cutting circles in the V-Tech cover out over the reflector but it would leave a gap between the cover and the lense. If they manufactured the covers to have a lip over the reflectors it'd be great.

I'll run the risk of not having the reflectors for the advantage of what looks good. If I get hassled by the boys in blue I guess I'll remove the covers. Being such an obscure car here they're likely to not even realise there's a cover on them with the covers finished in body colour.

Heat

Heat is how it's done on an RC car body too. Hairdryer or similar. Doesn't always work as expected though and they tend to lift where it's been stretched the most once exposed to the elements.
