Hi everyone,

Had my 2000 'X' Malina Blue V6 X-Pack for 3 months now and have just found this site. Car is great considering how inexpensive it was and has already benefitted from a new K&N panel filter. I'm a bit of a car fanatic but never one to over modify but I do have a question !!
Looking under the rear it looks amazingly easy to by-pass the rear exhaust box located behind the rear LH wheelarch by just cutting the pipe from the centre box approx in the rear axle area and then joining it directly to the existing RH rear box (hence completely doing away with the middle box).....has anyone tried this and does it make it sound nice or like an old Ford tractor ???:)

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Aston and welcome to ukcougar.com, your in the right place for all things cougar related, as well as some crazy banter. You will also be able to find all the fixes you need in our subscriber sections. Have a browse around the open forums and get a feel for the place. Remember! ukcougar.com is the only workshop manual for the big cat.
The exhaust mod you mention! I did the exact same thing a few years back before i binned it all for a ss system. Loads of photos info etc from when i did it are all in the subscribers sections, but basically yes it's easily doable, and no it doesnt sound half bad (y)

Hello. Welcome along.
I never thought of bypasing the box but yea i bet its ok sound wise.
Be better off with a twin exit tho IMO for all the work you need some twin exit porn for your trouble

Hi Aston, welcome to the forum. I have no idea how your mod would sound, but it sounds like a good idea. IIRC Mike (cougar571) has done it, but with a different rear box, and his sounds great.

Welcome aboard Aston :) lose the box mate, it'll sound ok, even better if you lose both OE boxes and fit a sport silencer ;)

I have modified the exhaust by taking out both back boxes so it's basically a 'straight through' system from the centre backwards.
It does sound good with a deep 'burble' plus the 'overrun' popping is louder & it's extremely easy to do.

Thanks for the compliment, it's appreciated.

BTW. Welcome to the club & forum

Hello all again !!
Thanks for all the greetings and also the tips on the exhaust mods. Think I'll give the easy option a go first by removing the intermediate box and then take it from there. Hope to join you all again soon on the forum . CHEERS !!!

Hello and welcome to another from the South West, I'm not far away down in Exeter, Devon. I'm running an MIJ Performance exhaust with sports cat, no mid box (been removed and straight pipe inserted) then runs through to twin back boxes and quad tip exits. Sounds like this:
