Hi all, i've decided to buy my dads 2.0 w plate frosty. Its recently had the matrix spring a leak, picking up a brand new one from europarts in leeds. Ive just become a subscriber for 18 quid :). I did have the fortune of driving the cougar a few weeks ago when the matrix blew, we've had the cat for over 2 years and have never had hot/warm air at all from the heater vents. So while i'm replacing tge matrix tomorrow ( thank you for the guide that is available!!). Can anyone advise me on what to look for as to why there has never been any hot/warm air?.

My dad also bought a full black leather interior but when trying to fit we noticed a problem with the plugs underneath the seats. Is it possible to fit leather and also have the heated sections working or? The problem iirc is the electrics as the plugs would not fit together. Can anyone help?

Pictures to follow!! :) another cat saved ;)

Thanks

Rob

Welcome back Rob.
There is a matrix listed on ebay atm. If yours has sprung a leak, it's probably been gunged up for quite some time which would explain poor heating due to poor circulation. Get the new one in, then hopefully it'll sort it, let us know how you get on.
Seat wiring in the zetec is same as the V6 so providing you get seats from a similar aged cougar it is plugnplay. Iirc the seat looms were changed late 99.

Oh right i do thonk i read about the seats being different depending on the age etc. If i get chance i'll post a pic of the seats i have and the loom in the car and thanks for the offer :) i'll get the matrix sorted tomorrow n give it a good flushing through and hopefully that will fix the problem of no hot air in the car. Once that os done i'll.report back ;) and get back to you about the seats. If its plug and play does that mean they will also be heated ?

I've bought a matrix from eurocarparts in leeds and will be ready for collection tomorrow at 9am so will be an early start. The car has never blown warm or hot air and did spring a leak a few months ago on my dad and he used radweld to fix it and then it leaked again a few week ago.

Thanks again :)

Welcome back!

If its plug and play does that mean they will also be heated ?

Maybe. From what I've seen, if the car was originally fitted with cloth seats, the thick blue wire to power the heaters will not be there regardless of whether the loom was 4-pin or 6-pin (the thick black wire will be though, because it's a common neutral).

It's possible to retro-fit it, but it'd be a lot of work.

The 6-pin to 4-pin (or vice-versa) conversion is a piece of cake though. Lucid did the last one I was there for and it's just a question of matching pinouts.

My car's loom has the four pin looms (grey plug) but originally I had the six pin looms on the seats.

I took the easy way out and bought the 'correct' seats.

Hence why i have two seats sat in my shed
