Normal running temp?

Stuck my cougar V6 into diagnostic mode - seems to run around town stop-start 95-103 degree C, cooling fans coming on at fairly regular intervals. (which brings it right down for a while, before creeping up again) Cruising on A - roads or motorways is OK, around 88-91. It's not exactly warm weather though.. The gauge doesn't flinch, rock steady at half-way, but I imagine it's one of those computer damped gauges, and not a true indicator.

Is this too hot? Most cars I've owned (mainly 4 cylinders) just run at 80-90 and stay there...

what does everyone else get?

The symptoms you describe i think are probably normal for the V6, they do run considerably hotter than the 4 pot. Some V6er will be along soon i'm sure.
 
Mine's done the same for 7.5 years so I assume it's a standard thing. Take no notice of Al (Pid16v), he's like one of those Encyclopedia Brittanica salesmen that turns up on your doorstep and tries to sell you the books!:LOL::LOL::LOL:

all 4 of the v6's ive had ran at the same temp and the gauge's all at the same position,they heat up very quickly but it is normal
 
I don't like the heated seats, probably had them on half a dozen times in the time I have had the car, makes my sphincter feel the same way as it does after evacuating my bowels after eating a particularly warm curry!!:LOL::LOL::LOL:
 
must admit i do enjoy it especially up here in the very warm winters we have,on the down side it takes about 5 minutes to heat up and by that time iam finished my journey

Ive had a v6 now for three years and must admit that the tempreture it runs at doesnt worry me too much. AS you say the guage doesnt go past the half way mark but if alls ok then why should it really. ? Im sure that if a hose goes or there is a serious issue then the guage would give the indication... BTW my fans come on a fair bit as well - but im not worried to be honest.

The problem with diagnostic modes is that they often tell you more than you want/need to know. So you start worrying about a problem that doesn't really exist.

Unless the car is overheating, losing coolant, not heating up, or over-cooling in the cruise, it's probably doing fine. Chasing a particular temperature is pointless.
