Overhead console

Interesting but remember guys, this is in Classifieds and so will be deleted eventually. A new thread in a relevant section might be more advantageous for members? ;)

Btw, DG is a 2001 C2 and has the 5 lights console :)

My V6 Cougar, MV51 has the 5-lamp console, earlier cars have the 7-lamp with additionally brake wear and bulbs out lamps.
I would guess Ford chose to keep symmetry and remove a lamp from each end (you can feel the missing lamp positions on the 5-lamp console) for whatever reason they had to chose two to delete.

Whoa! You have a clock! I only have 5 lamps on both my Cougars - W682 XJN and MV51 RUC
I spotted that, not Ford (why would they - there's one in the instruments), must be "by Al". Though that's in idea, location for some other switch/lamp/display.

AH I see what you have done there Alan, very clever indeed. You have taken a 7 lamp version and dremeled out the centre between No's 6-7 to make a bigger stock looking hole. I like it !!!

And positioned a 5-lamp pcb behind the first five holes...

I'm thinking microphone for hands-free one end, maybe call/answer button the other?

Thanks for the comments. I did this mod though a few years back and transferred it over from S97. I have a red display to replace the blue as blue can be invisible in bright light, red is more vivid. I'll probably see to it when i fit the 2din stereo.

Point to add to this one is that the reg plate bulbs dont register the 'bulb blown' warning light

It doesn't register blown foglights, reverse lights or wing repeater indicators either.

It seems that the system relies on a separate circuit that runs an extremely low voltage (1.5v) through piggy-backed wiring which is constantly powered as long as the ignition is on.

It also only works on the main brake light circuit - presumably for safety reasons - and that's why the light stays on until you dab the pedal. I've had Tiger so long now that the first thing I do after starting her is tap the brakes and look up to make sure the light goes out.

If any of the three bulbs in the third brake lamp fail it will also trip the warning lamp.

Yes. Steve Morris' car does (did?) this. It was usually fixed with a smart smack to her rump, so I think the actually problem is a bad seal around the 3rd light mask causing corrosion on the bulb contacts.

I do the same thing when I get in mine too :)

Didnt know that about the rest of the lights, have to add those onto my visual check now, could have had one of those out for a while as ive been lazy trusting the magic light would tell me ;)
