So, im brand new to this forum, joined up the other day. I've had a good snoop around and you lot seem to know your stuff about these cars. Great forum!

This is my 2nd ford (1st being a 1999 2.0 zetec focus). Bought it 4 days ago for £500, got a few months tax and test on it, no sh, and generally in a bit of a sorry state.

I'll let the pics do the talking now
try again

This has been bought as a daily drivier/project. Plan is to get it mint as possible and give it to our lass. Its quite a long to do list, first being mechanical stuff (mainly suspension replace drop links, anti roll bar bushes and maybe new dampers all round) , good service on the engine with a belt change. The bodywork will be ongoing, i'll be prepping the bodywork as much as i can before it goes into the paintshop for a blow over.

Then the modifications which will be nothing massive because the cars look great as they are but i would like full stainless (thinking centre exit one 6 x 4 oval), 18" wheels and tyres, and prob light tint the windows.

Progress thread coming soon lol

let me know your thoughts oh and btw its only done 83k and the engine pulss very well in all gears, brakes are shop etc.

Good on you for taking this on to restore it to good condition. It's a bit perplexing as to why someone buys a car such as a Cougar only to treat it like that.

Welcome to the forum mate and good luck with the restoration project. If there are any bits and pieces you need along the way, there are a couple of us on the forum who have just completely stripped cars and have garages full of spare parts.

well body parts i know i do need are both wings and a front bumper, rear bumper seems ok (no cracks or dings).

And yes the paintowrk is unbelieveably bad, has to be the worst ive ever seen. Luckily my mate is a valeter/detailer so should be ok. Although there is no point making it shine because its getting painted again anyway.

As for the inside it looked like a pack of dogs had lived in there for 3 years.

A good example of me buying something and having it restored it to its former glory is my old E34 bmw 525 sport (it had m5 everything but i would not call it a replica)

I know ive got my work cut out with this one but I think the time/effort/money will pay off.

I love it.

What the heck happened around the "COUGAR" word decal? The oval logo on the boot was obviously removed by the "screwdriver & brute force" method tho.........

OMG I don't think I've ever seen such an abused car!!!
Fair play bud & all the luck in the world, restore her & she'll reward you.

BTW, Welcome to ukcougar.com

Well someone has gone to the trouble of fitting a leather interior to a Zetec (spotted it didn't have fog lights), then treated it like crap, or a subsequent owner has. At least most of it's cosmetic, but might take a blow over to get the paintwork back to half decent.

BTW welcome to the forum.

Gotta say it didn't look like that in the advert on Gumtree nor does it IMO match the description given!! It's the car Tony posted on behalf of Froggy's mate. Definitely not just "signs of it's age" or indeed "worth loads more". Remind me to never buy anything up north again!!

That's in a shocking state, welcome to the club, should be an interesting project, it's certainly one of the worst 'looked after' examples that I have seen.

Looks like it's been a kennel
First thing i'd do with that would be to strip the interior, bin the flea ridden carped and replace with a good one from a scrapper, preferebly one that hasn't been sheltering the local strays and de-louse the whole car while it's stripped out. Other than that, basically cosmetic playtime, rip the wing off and bolt on a good replacement. I think this could be a busy thread ;)

It will be a good thread to watch. I love seeing someone transform there car from the not so good to a great example.
Go for it and do something different while you are at it !!!
