Hi Folks,

What do you think of treating a new air filter with K&N filter oil? I just assumed that it would be a sensible thing to do as I had some spare oil hanging around. The new filter is a standard pleated type. Now I think I may have made an error lol

Car seems to run fine....

if you have used the K&N oil then you shouldn't have any issue, I put my filter in a cool wash in the washing machine leave it to dry for a day and then coat it in the K&N oil not had any issues in 6 years (y)

would have thought the paper element would end up damaged

Maybe he has a cotton filter. Mine is a standard paper one from the motor factors. Would have thought it would be mush after the spin cycle! Think the paper ones may be impregnated with a bit of oil at manufacture. I have two anyway. Thanks guys..

Yep I would of thought oiling a paper filter would saturate it and block the intake?

Cheers guy it was a bit silly of me. Just thought I was being punctillious then I thought about the Maf sensor. They're ditrt cheap so no worries. Is it worth investing in a K&n/Pipercross for £40?

Only did about 10 miles in it and the pleats appeared dry so hopefully i'll be ok!
